The world of mixed martial arts is filled with fighters from all over the world. And some of them have ensured that they become the first-ever female fighters to have earned a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. And the women’s flyweight contender, Jasmine Jasudivicius is one such phenom, who decided to put her nation on UFC’s women’s division.
But where is the flyweight fighter actually from? If you’re also wondering the same, then my friend, you’ve come to the right place. Today, we’ll take a look at Jasudivicius’ nationality and her early life. And if you’re really impatient about it, let me give you a hint. It’s the country that the Americans wish to call the 51st state.
Is Jasmine Jasudavicius Canadian?
Yes indeed! Jasmine Jasudivicius is actually a Canadian. She was born on March 1, in St. Catharines, Ontario, and grew up with two siblings. However, it was her love for martial arts that reeled her into the UFC. And yes, Jasudivicius is the very first Canadian woman to get a UFC contract.
Talking about her big achievement prior to UFC 270, Jasudivicius said, “Being the first Canadian woman to earn a contract, it’s really amazing to me. I really feel like I want to represent so well. We have a handful of Canadian fighters in the UFC. But, I think that we’re all a tough crowd to deal with. I’m so happy to represent Canada. I feel so honored.”
The Canadian star’s debut in the world of mixed martial arts was in 2017 when she fought under the banner of Full Contact Promotions as an amateur. And then she jumped to WFC as an undefeated professional fighter in 2019. She then went on to fight at Cage Titans, BTC, CFFC, and finally Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021.
But what about her family? Do her folks support her in her decision to grow in the realm of martial arts? Let’s avert our eyes to the Jasudivicius family and see how the Canadian flyweight contender plans to dominate the Octagon. After all, she does aim to become a champion someday.
Jasmine Jasudavicius’ family and background
Jasudavicius was indeed a late bloomer. She threw her first punch when she was 26 years old. And her parents, John and Rita Lianga, are her biggest fans. Of course, her family was in attendance of her fights, including her fight against Priscila Cachoeira at UFC 297, in Toronto. Well, she’s also the middle child, and that comes with its own problems.
But coming to the fighting world, she has her aim set high. Jasudivicius once said, “I’m trying to get hype fights, and hype finishes.” And talking to the UFC prior to her fight at UFC Saudi Arabia, she said, “I’m still looking at martial arts as if I’m a white belt. I’m still hungry for the knowledge, I’m excited for practice, I genuinely enjoy practice every single day; there is nothing that I love to do more.” Spoken like a true warrior, don’t you think?
Now, with Mayra Bueno Silva as her opponent, Jasudivicius is out to exploit her proficiency as a fighter with a professional MMA record of 12-3-0. She’s currently coming off a 3- 3-fight win streak, with her last battle against Ariane Lipski da Silva getting her a Performance of the Night bonus. After all, she executed a perfect D’Arce choke in the third round. But would she be able to do the same at UFC Saudi Arabia? Let’s wait till Saturday and watch her rock, shall we?
