Kanye West’s South Korea tour gets cancelled

South Korea’s Coupang has canceled Kanye West’s tour, originally planned for May 31 at Incheon Munhak Stadium. The event was set to be Ye’s first solo performance in South Korea.

However, it was called off due to “recent controversy surrounding the singer,” according to statements from Coupang and the ticket vendor Interpark on Monday. While the companies did not specify the exact issues, the cancellation follows intense backlash after West released a song earlier this month called “Heil Hitler.” The song comprises praise for the infamous Nazi leader.

Following the announcement of the cancellation, Coupang confirmed that all tickets sold for the concert would be fully refunded. In addition, Coupang Play, the streaming platform organizing the event, stopped selling Yeezy-branded merchandise as of May 19 at 1:00 PM. They added, “We ask for your generous understanding as we wait for the performance. We will provide refund information individually to ticket purchasers.”

This controversy marks the latest in a series of issues Kanye West has faced over his antisemitic remarks. His partnership with Adidas ended in October 2022 amid similar controversies. The company sold the final pairs of Yeezy shoes in March.
