I adore a good booklist, and The LA Times has been on a roll. In honor of the 30th birthday of the Festival of Books, The LA Times has been posting various lists of 30 of the most influential books published from 1996 to the present. They’ve already posted a list for fiction, but now, it’s nonfiction’s turn. These 30 books cover a range of topics from Tressie McMillan Cottom’s essay collection to Patrick Radden Keefe’s intimate look at the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Highlights include:

The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot Men We Reaped by Jesmyn Ward Solito by Javier Zamora Citizen by Claudia Rankine

The Great Spring 2025 Book Preview (The Millions)

This spring has been a whirlwind of chaos, so it’s been difficult to keep up with all of the must-read new releases that I need to add to my TBR. But The Millions is here for me. Their Great Spring Book Preview highlights dozens of new books that we won’t want to miss. There are plenty of fiction selections on this list, but they didn’t skimp on the nonfiction either. Whether you want to read a memoir about Melissa Febos’s year of no sex or if you want to delve into a biography of Marsha P. Johnson, there’s something on this list for you. Here are a few notable titles:

Girl on Girl by Sophie Gilbert Apocalypse by Lizzie Wade Little Bosses Everywhere by Bridget Read So Many Stars edited by Caro de Robertis  Things in Nature Merely Grow by Yiyun Li Marsha by Tourmaline  The Dry Season by Melissa Febos

20 Books You Might Have Missed (but Shouldn’t) (Kirkus)

Still worried about not having enough to read this season? Kirkus has even MORE books that you’ll definitely want to check out. These are all starred reviews, which, for Kirkus—ever the grumpy old man of book reviews—can be quite hard to get. (I love you Kirkus, really.) Here’s a little sample of their favorite titles of late:

No Less Strange and Wonderful by A. Kendra Greene White Light by Jack Lohmann King of the North by Jeanne Theoharis A Greek Tragedy by Jeanne Carstensen
