On February 11, 2020, The Conners made history with an innovative episode that was the first of the series. Truthfully, the original Roseanne series in general was known for breaking the mold and centering some of its episodes around controversial topics. Firstly, Roseanne was one of the first shows to portray the working-class family authentically. Compared to other shows during that time, such as The Cosby Showand Family Ties, which mainly portrayed middle-to-upper class families, Roseanne and The Conners lived paycheck to paycheck. The family regularly dealt with layoffs, parenting issues, and other common lower-to-middle class concerns. Rarely did Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) and her family shy away from tough conversations and awkward situations. Additionally, RoseanneSeason 3, Episode “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was also a pivotal episode and one of the first to air a same-sex kiss in the '90s.
