Best known for his role as Luke Skywalker, Hamill recently had a chat with ComicBook, where he spoke of his new film The Life of Chuck, and why he likely won’t return for any Star Wars projects moving forward.

On hanging up his boots as Luke Skywalker, Hamill said: “I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made.’”

“We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”

Hamill went on to joke, referring to Luke’s “death” in 2017’s The Last Jedi: “And by the way, when I disappeared, I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.”

After The Last Jedi, Skywalker appeared in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, though as a Force ghost. A younger version of the character – though only voiced by Hamill – later appeared in episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The events of these shows took place before The Force Awakens and its sequels.

The latest Star Wars offering, Andor season two, scored a glowing five-star review from Paul Bradshaw, who wrote for NME: “Andor season 2 wears a level of polish that nothing else in the galaxy comes close to matching. Confident, mature and exciting from the off, the last four or five episodes hit the same highs as Rogue One – enriching the bigger story arc instead of ever just feeling like an add-on.”
