Ludo Studio is moving from the suburbs of Brisbane to the stars. Netflix has officially announced that Allen, a new live-action sci-fi comedy from the creators of the global phenomenon Bluey, will premiere globally on Thursday, November 12, 2026.
The announcement was accompanied by a 26-second teaser trailer that takes a sharp, satirical turn. Rather than the colorful, heartwarming aesthetic associated with Ludo Studio’s animated work, the clip directly parodies the iconic opening title sequence of Ridley Scott’s 1979 horror masterpiece Alien. The slow-forming typography serves as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the genre, setting the stage for a film that blends adult nostalgia with a comedic “E.T.” style premise.

From Blue Heeler to Extraterrestrial
Starring T.J. Power as Petey, the film explores what happens two decades after a quintessential “boy meets alien” encounter. Petey is now a grown man who unexpectedly reunites with the extraterrestrial friend he first met as a child. Joining Power in the cast are Charlotte Nicdao (Mythic Quest), Josh Helman (Mad Max: Fury Road), and Emily Barclay.
The project represents a significant creative pivot for Ludo Studio. While the world knows them for the animated adventures of the Heeler family, Allen is the studio’s first locally produced live-action feature film. Daley Pearson, a co-founder of Ludo and a key creative force behind Bluey, created the film and shares directing duties with Jeffrey Walker, known for his work on The Artful Dodger.
Production for the film was heavily concentrated in Australia, with principal photography beginning in July 2025. According to IF Magazine, the project filmed across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, and the Gold Coast, utilizing Screen Queensland Studios in Brisbane. The production was supported by the Queensland Government’s Production Attraction Strategy and the Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive.
The film’s blend of practical locations and high-concept sci-fi marks a new chapter for Ludo, moving from the international success of preschool animation into a broader genre-bending comedy space. With the release date now set for late 2026, the marketing suggests a film that will play with the tropes of 1980s and 90s science fiction while maintaining the character-driven focus that has become the studio’s hallmark.
