God of War’s Kratos has pummeled the gods in Greek and Norse mythology, and for his next adventure, Egyptian gods could feel his wrath.
Spotted on Insider Gaming, reputable scooper DanielRPK claims that Sony seeks Middle Eastern Actors for its next AAA title, presumably a God of War game.
“Sony is casting Middle Eastern actors for an unknown AAA game, which is likely to be the next God of War that explores Egyptian mythology,” DanielRPK says in his report.
Insider Gaming points out that this information has not been verified, so we should still take it with the tiniest grain of salt. But if true, it aligns with Sony Santa Monica’s handling of the video game franchise.
When we first took control of the vengeful Spartan warrior, he was fed up with the Greek gods. He took his rage to Mount Olympus, where he put his hands, feet, and Blades of Chaos on his pops, Zeus. He then channeled that rage to beat up the Norse Gods in 2018’s reboot and its epic conclusion, God of War Ragnarok.
Heading To Egypt Is Nothing New
Heading to Egypt is the next logical step because Kratos is running out of deities to defeat on his adventures. The idea of making a GOW game based on Egyptian mythology has also been floated before.
In the exceptional God of War—Raising Kratos documentary, Cory Barlog revealed that they initially considered revolving 2018’s God of War around Egyptian mythology before ultimately deciding to go the Norse route, which was a sound choice.
“I think the first pitch I gave was that we wouldn’t even know what was happening,” God of War creative director Cory Barlog said. “So i t was Kratos walking through the desert—because we were, in my mind, still doing Egypt initially—wind, sand blowing all over the place as he’s kind of crawling through and then kind of stands up over a dune and checks out this really fantastic ancient city.”
If Kratos is heading to Egypt, consider us hyped. We just want to play another God of War game, so we don’t care where he and Atreus end up.
