A former Rockstar Games employee has cast doubt over claims that GTA 6 PS5 Pro enhancements will include 60 FPS support. Mike York, who was an animator at the company, reckons that the game will be targeting a locked 30 FPS on the PS5/PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S.
Will PS5 Pro upscale GTA 6 to 60 FPS?
Speaking to Kiwi Talkz (via GamesRadar), York said that he doubts GTA 6 will be able to pull off 60 FPS on consoles. As for the PS5 Pro, he said that the game might get close to 60 FPS if it’s being boosted by something like an upscaler, but he’s still doubtful about that.
“I don’t think initial release will come out at 60 FPS unless it’s getting those 60 FPS by an AI upscaler thing like the PlayStation is doing, unless something is coming in and helping it get those 60 FPS,” York opined. “I don’t think it’ll get the 60 FPS raw out the gate on a base console. PS5, for instance. Maybe PS5 Pro, or whatever, but I still don’t think so.”
York isn’t the first person to ask fans to temper expectations. Tech experts at Digital Foundry have previously cautioned players against getting their hopes up for GTA 6 running at 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro.
