Although the ensemble cast of Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis is what made audiences fall in love with Ghostbusters in the first place, the franchise has changed its cast a lot in the past decade. In 2016, Paul Feig rebooted the Ghostbusters franchise with an all-female cast, led by his Bridesmaids stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy. It was a fun enough movie, with a lot of laughs and a lot of VFX spectacle, but the inevitable comparisons to the original Ghostbusters — one of the single greatest comedies ever made, and a childhood-defining masterpiece for multiple generations — did not work in its favor.
