The discovery that Denise Fox (Diane Parish) has a half-brother changed everything for her family in EastEnders.

Denise was diagnosed with blood cancer earlier this year. After having her first round of chemo, Denise was told that it had failed to perform as doctors expected. On top of this, her immediate family turned out not be matches for a stem cell transplant.

With hopes high though, Denise admitted herself to hospital for another round of chemotherapy, but as before, it failed to do the job, with the family forced to accept that a stem cell transplant is the only thing left that can save Denise.

On an ancestry site, Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) learnt that Denise has a half-brother called Darnell (Christopher Colquhoun).

Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) begged Darnell to put himself forward to see if he was a stem cell match, but he refused to undergo the test.

Things changed for Darnell once daughter Grace (Krysstina Frempong) urged him to help.

In the hospital though, an anxious Darnell explained that he became terrified of hospitals after the death of his wife. He agreed to take the swab to see if he could save his sister’s life and recently, Denise learnt that a provisional stem cell match has been found.

Next week, problems arise.

Denise tells Jack that a potential donor still hasn’t come forward for testing. Jack is convinced it’s Darnell, and demands answers from the new face.

Darnell reveals that he now knows he might be a potential match, but explains his fears about moving forward. Denise accepts the decision, but Jack isn’t satisfied.

If Darnell can’t get over his fears to help Denise, where does that leave her?

‘It’s been brilliant’, star Christopher said, reflecting on what it’s been like to join the EastEnders cast.

‘Everyone’s been so welcoming, and I’m absolutely loving it. I have huge respect for the actors in EastEnders.

‘They work under immense time pressures yet consistently strive to deliver truthful, nuanced and often emotional performances, which is not easy! So, I’m proud to be among them and excited for the challenge ahead!’
