READ MORE: Jennie’s new single ‘Mantra’ is a satisfying extension of the BLACKPINK blueprintBoth the song and music video were released on January 31, marking the third song off her forthcoming solo debut album ‘Ruby’. The mellow track, which features a verse by Dominic Fike, “explores an undeniable attraction to someone who’s both toxic and intoxicating”, per a press release.
The ‘Love Hangover’ music video stars May December and Riverdale actor Charles Melton and is directed by Bradley & Pablo, known for their previous work on music videos for the likes of Harry Styles and Lil Nas X.
The visual begins with Charles Melton’s character giving a eulogy at Jennie’s funeral before her coffin is lowered into the grave, before it launches into the full backstory of events that led up to the funeral. Jennie and Charles Melton are seen on numerous dates in different settings, all of which end with fatal incidents for the former.
‘Love Hangover’ comes nearly a week after she dropped a surprise music video for another cut off her forthcoming album, a song titled ‘Zen’. That same day, the K-pop idol also announced a string of intimate shows to celebrate the release of ‘Ruby’ to take place in Los Angeles, New York and Seoul.
Along with her October 2024 single ‘Mantra’, all three songs will be released in full as part of ‘Ruby’ on March 7. The record will also feature Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dua Lipa, Kali Uchis and more.
