Led by Ana de Armas, the action-packed film has ignited conversations among critics and fans alike. First reactions to Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas, have arrived following the film’s world premiere. Critics and viewers who attended early screenings shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter). Many praised the film’s action sequences and Ana de Armas’ performance as Eve Macarro.

Jonathan Sim wrote, “BALLERINA: FROM THE WORLD OF JOHN WICK is everything you could wish for… Mind-blowing fight scenes, phenomenally choreographed and staged. Ana de Armas is an action hero for the ages.” He described the plot as “a simple revenge story with incredible stunts and improvised weapons, from flame throwers to grenades to ice skates.”

Germain Lussier described the film as “hilariously over the top,” noting its “wild action” but also calling the story “painfully boring.” He added that “Ana de Armas is a true action star,” despite feeling John Wick’s inclusion detracted from the narrative.

Christopher (@LuminousDagger) called Ballerina “a great addition to the World of John Wick,” highlighting the film’s “ice-breaking, bone-crunching and gut-spilling action.” He credited director Len Wiseman for bringing “a fresh set of eyes” and praised De Armas as “the perfect fit for Eve” in her “best action role yet.”

Adriano Caporusso remarked that while reshoots were apparent, the film “stands next to the other John Wick films with confidence,” citing a familiar but compelling storyline.

Ballerina, set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, follows Eve Macarro as she begins assassin training with the Ruska Roma. The cast features Ana de Armas, Norman Reedus, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, and Keanu Reeves, who reprises his role as John Wick.

The film is scheduled to release on June 6, 2025.
