Alex Garland to direct Elden Ring’s live-action adaptation for A24
A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment recently confirmed that they are working on a live-action Elden Ring movie with Alex Garland.
They conveyed in a joint press release, “ELDEN RING was created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, based on a mythological story written by George RR Martin, author of the fantasy novel series, “A Song of Ice and Fire.” To bring the epic world and intense action of ELDEN RING to film, the project will be led by filmmaker Alex Garland as writer and director.”
The studios added that Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich from DNA, George R. R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis will produce the movie.
Writer George RR Martin teased the live-action movie at the IGN Fan Fest 2025 in February 2025. He stated, “Well, I can’t say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring.”
Additionally, Martin addressed his possible involvement in the project, saying, “We’ll see if that [the Elden Ring movie] comes to pass and what the extent of my involvement was, I don’t know.” He also asserted that he is currently busy with his book, The Winds of Winter. Thus, his participation in the project might be less as the book “limits the amount of things” he “can do.”
As of now, A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment have not announced a release date window for the Elden Ring movie.
