After jamming his knee Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout will go on the injured list once again.

Testing on Trout’s knee, which was surgically repaired twice last season, didn’t show any structural damage, according to MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger. However, the bone bruise the three-time MVP suffered is enough for the Angels to put him on the 10-day IL.

“He has a bone bruise so we’re going to put him on the IL,” manager Ron Washington told reporters. “It’s not significant. But he needs rest.”

Trout was taken out of the game against the Mariners ahead of his at-bat in the fourth inning. He was replaced by pinch-hitter Jo Adell.

During Trout’s at-bat in the third, he tried to run out a ground ball to second base. He sprinted down the line and lunged toward first and was barely out. Trout stayed in the game on defence but was pulled the next inning.

After the game, Washington told reporters that Trout felt the soreness when he hit the bag, so they took him out as a precaution.

Trout had not missed a game this season before Thursday’s loss to the Detroit Tigers, appearing in 22 games in right field.

Trout appeared in 29 games last season before tearing his meniscus and missing the remainder of the season. He’s hitting .173 this season, with nine home runs and 18 RBIs.
