Kalen DeBoer’s first full recruiting class already ranked No. 4 in the country. Alabama signed 22 high school studs led by 5-stars like Keelon Russell, Dijon Lee Jr., and Michael Carroll. Add in 12 transfers and the Tide’s got a full reload locked and loaded. But he’s not even close to done. It’s Year 2 of the DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa and the man is officially off the leash.

On May 23, tdalabamamag dropped some insight into how Kalen DeBoer and his staff is “attacking the recruiting trial in Year 2 at Alabama.” The photo included a quote of the Bama HC via Always College Football with former Tide QB Greg McElroy. “I think this year, it’s just continuing to fill in the gaps,” he said. “You’re gonna recruit across the board, every position… where are the areas where we know exactly what we’re losing next year, who we might lose to the NFL, how we can get better with recruiting, who can play early in their career and help us?” It’s clear. Alabama is targeting needs instead of big names and that’s the mindset.

I feel like we got a good grasp of the guys that we’re really attacking and feel we have strong relationships with who also feel good about us,” Kalen DeBoer said. So, here’s the case in point. Alabama’s locked on Georgia speedster Ryan Mosley, a 4-star WR with jets and hands. He’s got visits lined up — Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Nebraska, and Texas A&M. And the inclination is pointing to Tuscaloosa. Coach DeBoer needs to start shopping for a 2026 WR, a spot that’s still vacant.

Then there’s Matt Ponatoski — the Ohio QB who’s also a legit MLB pick. This dual-sport freak is down to a few finalists and Alabama’s right in the mix. You can already picture this — he could be a guy slinging TDs on Saturdays and hitting bombs for Alabama baseball. Kalen DeBoer’s giving him that flexibility pitch and it’s working. As high school football coach Cody Flournoy said, “They’re recruiting the right guys.” Under recruiting standout Maurice Linguist, Alabama already secured five commitments including 5-star CB Jorden Edmonds. And as good as the recruiting narrative is going, the message behind it is even stronger.

Kalen DeBoer’s tough offseason reality check

Behind closed doors, Kalen DeBoer isn’t sugarcoating anything. His offseason message wasn’t some cliché hype up. It was a challenging gut punch to serve as a wake-up call to anyone who thought Alabama could just cruise on legacy. Forget chill vibes and easy reps, this summer’s about grind. Every rep, every meeting, every mile logged in the heat is about proving you deserve to wear the jersey. The way he sees it, you don’t earn Saturday glory until you suffer Monday through Friday.

And what separates the contenders from pretenders is accountability. And that’s where Kalen DeBoer is showing his hand. He’s not here to babysit. He’s here to build men for that ultimate championship goal. “We’ve captioned them not to do too much (on their own) because this summer is going to be as hard as any one they’ve ever been through,” he said. “[They also need to know] what to work on.” And of course, this offseason vision is music to the ears of fans

The mission is simple but brutal. Bring Alabama back to glory. The scoreboard won’t care about excuses in November. And Kalen DeBoer is not playing for participation trophies. It’s the Tide we’re talking about and the goal is the national championship and no less.
