On January 10, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas hosted the 2025 Cotton Bowl. While Ohio State Buckeyes were battling Texas Longhorns, the giant screen in the stadium showed Jerry Jones. Suddenly, the jolly moment turned into anger. Here’s what exactly happened.
Immediately, the fans started booing him. And why not? The season 2024 was full of disasters for Jones and his Cowboys, including bad decisions, delays, and ignoring players’ needs. Everyone saw a strong reaction during the live broadcast. And after that, social junkies expressed their anger too. One fan called it the right move and wrote on X, “As he should be.” Another fan claimed that it would show Jerry Jones what fans think about him and mentioned. “That’ll show him!” Fans are really angry after they departed from the 2024 regular season with a 7-10 win-loss record.

Another fan of the Cowboys termed it as the fans’ way to show their feelings and commented, “This is the way.” And, that’s not even a question now, why did this happen? Some things in 2024 were really mysterious for Dallas. When CeeDee Lamb missed a touchdown opportunity in the week 10 game against the Eagles because of sunshine, he wanted the curtains to be put. But the owner refused. It also affected their 2024 offseason.
At the Cowboys, Jerry Jones is the only person who knows in which direction the franchise is going. We have seen it time and again. Not just that. Last year, when CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott were waiting for a contract deal, he kept stretching the negotiations. Both deals were ultimately signed a few days before the season began, leaving less time for reps.
Even after the season, the owner has a similar attitude. He hasn’t revealed his plans for the HC Mike McCarthy but blocked the Bears’ request to interview him. These things don’t help his image in the fanbase. They want clarity over his decisions.
One fan claimed that booing him didn’t affect Jerry Jones as the fans were still spending money and wrote, “ Good, BUTTTTTTT he doesn’t care. Folks are still spending money!!!” The fans are not happy.
We can connect the booing to the underlying restlessness. After all, the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl in 3 decades. And they still don’t look like a team that can go all the way. Jones needs to change it this season.
Can Jerry Jones avert the $52.7 million disaster?
The contract amounts for the QB and the WR were unprecedented, creating history in the league. Just a year later, the situation has completely flipped on the America’s Team. According to Spotrac, the Cowboys QB has the highest $89.9M cap because of his 4-year $240 million contract. And even after full salary conversion, it would be a mammoth $52.7 million. That’s a disaster on the owner’s part. Did he not look at all the financial impact it would have on the franchise? He did, but had other plans at work.
Dak Precott holds a league-high $89.9M cap figure with the #Cowboys in 2025.
Even if (when) Dallas processes a full salary conversion, the lowest his cap hit can be for the upcoming season is $52.7M.

Stephen Jones, son of Jerry Jones and Cowboys CEO, told 105.3 The Fan last week, “We reworked (Dak Prescott’s contract) every step of the way of his $40 million contract and we’ll be reworking it again throughout on his $60 million contract, in terms of pushing the payday out.” For the quarterback, it’s fine. He wouldn’t mind it as he claimed he loves the game more than the money. But a $52.7 million cap space is still huge.
The Cowboys might turn to their WR CeeDee Lamb’s contract too. He was signed on a 4-year $136 million deal, second highest paid after Dak Prescott. But they really should have paid attention to these issues beforehand. According to the reports, they have $15.152 million in cap space for 2025. After restructuring QB’s deal, it would be in the range of $50 million. That doesn’t give them much options.
In comparison, teams like the New England Patriots have a $126 million cap hit. So, they have a much bigger amount to sign players like Tyreek Hill that would turn around the games. The Cowboys also need some new talent, if they want to win the Super Bowl.
