Young & Restless’ Sharon Case Reveals Why She Was Afraid of Getting Fired

For a long time, Sharon Case was afraid that The Young and the Restless producers would fire her. While celebrating her 30th anniversary on the show, Case recalled a time when she was afraid that her time on the show was coming to an end soon.

Sharon Case has now played Sharon Collins on The Young and the Restless for over 30 years. She first appeared on the show on September 14, 1994. She wasn’t the first to play the role, but she was surely the one who impressed the viewers the most.

By the time Case appeared on The Young and the Restless, she had acted in General Hospital and As the World Turns. Although they were popular shows, those roles didn’t help her achieve much success. But after joining Y&R, her life changed completely. However, despite having a good role, the actress didn’t think that she would be on the show for too long.

In an interview with Soap.com, Case recalled her early days of the show. “I mean, I hoped. I thought the character of Nick Newman, being the son of Victor and Nikki, could go [for all these years]. But I didn’t even know if that would happen. It’s not necessarily how these things work.”

She admitted, “Actors think that [they’re getting cut] every single day, no matter what happens. Like, somebody breaks a nail, and you think, ‘That’s it, I’m getting fired!’” She further added, “You’re always just hoping for the best. My viewpoint was to just do my best at all times, then no matter what happens, you don’t have any regrets. You can’t have any!”

She explained how the role changed her confidence. “I couldn’t say I always felt this way throughout the years, but I do now feel like I could play anything. I wouldn’t have said that before,” she revealed.

She concludes by saying, “I thought, ‘Well, you know, every actor has their sort of sphere, their genre that they can play in, and that’s what they’re capable of doing. But I don’t really think that of myself anymore.”
