The WNBA season is officially underway, and it’s already giving us plenty to talk about. After months of brushing off the idea of a rivalry between Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, we just got a timely reminder–maybe there really is something brewing between them after all. It all kicked off when Angel Reese grabbed an offensive rebound and Caitlin Clark swiped at her arm hard enough to knock the ball loose–and Reese to the floor. When Reese got up, she didn’t back down. She moved toward Clark, but Indiana center Aliyah Boston quickly stepped in to separate them. After a review, Clark’s third personal foul was upgraded to a flagrant 1, while both Boston and Reese were hit with technical fouls. Both players downplayed the incident in the postgame press conference, agreeing it was just a basketball play. But Fever head coach Stephanie White made one thing clear—this is the kind of toughness you can expect from Indiana moving forward.
The coach said, “Yeah, I mean, look–nobody’s going to get anything easy against us. You know, we’re going to be a tough defensive team. I thought it was a clear play on the ball as well. One of the points of emphasis for us is we can’t give up and-ones. Like, we can’t give up and-ones. So, you know, you’re going to feel us. But I thought it was a good play on the ball, and I am proud of this group.”
