A week after Katsuji Tanabe left Yes, Chef! the contestant finally responded to a question about why he had to leave the NBC show. The exit and his subsequent responses have led to several theories and speculation on social media.
Katsuji Tanabe on why he had to leave Yes, Chef!
The inaugural season of Yes, Chef! featured 12 professional chefs competing in a series of Masterchef-like trials for a grand prize. One among them, Katsuju Tanabi, left the show after several weeks of the competition, shocking fans.
Over a week later, Tanabe finally answered fans on social media platforms about why he departed. When a viewer asked the reality TV star why did he leave the NBC show on Instagram, Tanabe responded with “Keep watching the show.”
While the first response seems mysterious enough, when another fan wrote, “Missing you on Yes, Chef. You made the show entertaining. Was rooting for you. Why did you leave?” Tanabe responded by saying, “Post it on @nbc.” The second response has raised many eyebrows, with fans speculating that his exit may have something to do with the network.
Other fans also speculated that perhaps he had to sign an NDA, which stopped him from spilling details. The most controversial theory surrounding his departure suggested that he was deported because he was a Mexican immigrant (via The Direct).
However, based on Tanabe’s responses, it appears that his stint on the show may not be over. While the reason behind his absence is still unclear, his repeated insistence about asking fans to continue watching the show does seem to hint that he could be back, and perhaps soon, too.
It is also possible that if he returns to Yes, Chef!, he will explain his sudden absence. The next episode of the show is set to premiere on June 9, 2025.
