Each box included a unique cooking method and a corresponding number of diners. Techniques ranged from steaming and foam to clarifying, fresh pasta, and spherification. Contestants had 45 minutes to complete their dishes.

Chef Katsuji Tanabe took all the eggs from the shared kitchen, impacting multiple competitors, including Michelle, who had planned a traditional consommé. José Andrés said, “We’re learning from Chef Michelle that she doesn’t taste her foods. Her dishes always lack the extra punch.” Martha Stewart described her broth as “less clear” and noted it had “a lot of fat on top.”
