X-Men '97 had a nearly impossible task when it arrived more than 25 years after X-Men: The Animated Series came to an end. Marvel wasn't rebooting the beloved series or just borrowing its characters for another adaptation. The new series picked up where the original left off, bringing back familiar voices, relationships, and storylines while finding ways to move the X-Men forward. Two seasons later, X-Men '97 has gone considerably bigger than its predecessor ever could. Season 2 scattered the team across time, brought Apocalypse back to the forefront, introduced X-Factor and X-Force, and continued pulling characters from throughout the X-Men's enormous comic book history.
