X-Men ’97 creator Beau DeMayo has confirmed a casting rumor regarding the upcoming second season.

X-Men ’97 premiered on Disney+ in March 2024. The show, which serves as a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, was created by DeMayo. DeMayo, however, was fired from the show right around the time the first season premiered after he completed working on the first two seasons.

What X-Men ’97 casting rumor did Beau DeMayo confirm?

Earlier this week, scooper MyTimeToShineHello reported that Scream star Neve Campbell would be playing the X-Men character Polaris in the MCU. ComicBookMovie later reported that Campbell had actually been hired to voice Polaris in X-Men ’97 Season 2 rather than play the character in live-action.

On X, DeMayo responded to a post saying that Campbell would star as a live-action Polaris and confirmed that she will instead be in X-Men ’97 Season 2.

“Incorrect. I cast her as Polaris in Season 2 of #xmen97,” DeMayo wrote. “She does amazing work bringing something new, and felt right to have a 90s icon pick up where Lorna’s story was left in “Cold Comfort. She’s got some thoughts on Genosha.”

Campbell is best known for playing Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise, a role she’ll soon be seen reprising in Scream 7, which will be released in February 2026. Her filmography also includes 1996’s The Craft, 1998’s Wild Things, 2000’s Panic, 2003’s The Company, 2018’s Skyscraper, and more. In television, Campbell has had roles in series such as Catwalk, Party of Five, Medium, The Philanthropist, House of Cards, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Twisted Metal, among other titles.

Created by Arnold Drake and Jim Steranko, Polaris first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1986’s The X-Men #49. She is the daughter of Magneto and, similar to her father, has the ability to control magnetism. The character previously appeared in Fox’s The Gifted, a Marvel Comics show set in a different timeline than the Fox X-Men series that ran for two seasons, where she was played by Emma Dumont.

A premiere date for X-Men ’97 Season 2 has not yet been announced.
