Wrestling Experts Make Bold Claim Over Gable Steveson After Fans Push 4X Champion Out in Favor of Iowa Legend

Winning an Olympic gold medal is usually enough for most athletes. However, Gable Steveson just wants to be a notch above all. Getting a WWE contract, and an NFL contract, is there anything that Steveson can’t do? And if these were not enough, he decided to come back to NCAA wrestling after a gap of two years! And boy oh boy did he perform splendidly! Remaining undefeated this season, Gable Steveson proved like a rock that cannot be moved by even the best of the bests. However, despite all his heroics, the 24-year-old  might not be the best in the NCAA as per a wrestling expert. 

Christian Pyles from FloWrestling sat down to analyze everything Gable Steveson. On being asked whether Steveson was his number one wrestler, Pyles straightaway denied! Instead, he mentioned how he was more attracted to the fighting style of Cael Sanderson. Pyles opined that if judged solely by credentials, then Cael Sanderson would easily take away the victory. One of the biggest reasons for that backed his opinion is that Sanderson has never officially lost a bout! 

Another thing going in his favor was the fact that Sanderson has 4 NCAA titles under his belt! Heaping praises on Sanderson, Pyles opined that his always ready to win mentality makes him stand out from the rest. “He’s number one I’ve watched as much kale internet footage as I can find and it’s just the dominance and just the constant pursuit of scoring is I think what separates him from everyone including yes, Dake and Gable,” said Pyles. Further shedding light on the duo, Pyles shared one major point of difference between the two.

“He is always looking to score gable scores every time he wants kale always wanted to score,” Pyles stated. He gave an example of Steveson’s recent game against Greg Kerkvliet. Pyles pointed out that despite winning the bout, Steveson played it safe. He could have easily taken Kerkvliet down more but he chose not to as Steveson already knew he was going to get the victory. But for, Cael Sanderson, he would have tried to ‘bury’ Kerkvliet according to Pyles. 

Thus, while acknowledging Steveson’s greatness, Chris Pyles put him as his number 2. Interestingly, fans too, stated that Cael Sanderson was quite ahead of the league when it came to comparison with Gable Steveson. Meanwhile, reigning in the heavyweight division, Gable Steveson had one of the most dominant displays in NCAA wrestling ever.

Gable Steveson capped off a flawless season with yet another dominant performance. Securing the Big Ten heavyweight title he has just extended his unbeaten collegiate streak to 67 matches. In a high-stakes final on March 9, Steveson faced Penn State’s Greg Kerkvliet and left no room for doubt, delivering a commanding victory. And with that, he closed out his Big Ten career in style.

Gable’s path to the top was marked by sheer dominance. In the quarterfinals, he overpowered Maryland’s Seth Nevills with a crushing 21–5 technical fall, showcasing his signature explosive takedowns. He followed that with a decisive 15–4 win over Ohio State’s Nick Feldman in the semifinals, proving that his comeback to collegiate wrestling was more than just a headline. It was a statement.

In the final, Steveson was relentless. His control over Kerkvliet was clear from the opening whistle, reinforcing why he has remained undefeated since his return. “Minnesota has given me everything, and I have to give it back now,” Steveson said earlier this season. And give back he did. His victory not only secured another Big Ten title but also cemented his place as the top-ranked heavyweight in NCAA Division I.
