Saturday’s World Series finale — a heartbreaking extra-inning loss for the Blue Jays to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 — was the most-watched Rogers broadcast ever, with an average audience of 10.9 million viewers.
Over 18.5 million Canadians, nearly 45 per cent of the country’s population, watched some or all of Game 7, peaking at 14 million around midnight when Ernie Clement came to bat with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The thrilling end to a month-long journey also stands as the most-watched English-language broadcast on record in Canada besides the 2010 Winter Olympics.
An average of 2.3 million fans tuned in early during Sportsnet’s Blue Jays Central programming pre-game, with 1.2 million sticking around for post-game coverage.
Throughout the duration of the seven-game Fall Classic, 23 million Canadians tuned in at some point, with an average of 7.5 million viewers during the series, making it the seven most-watched Blue Jays games ever.
The entirety of MLB’s post-season coverage on Sportsnet averaged 2.5 million viewers and reached 24.8 million Canadians.
