EVERYONE knows that the first rule of being a wedding guest is to not outshine the bride.
One woman showed off the dress she had picked out for an upcoming celebration – and people did not hold back with telling her to rethink her decision.
instagram/sovintage_house/The woman shared how she was considering wearing this pink dress – but it didn’t go down well[/caption]The woman showed off a photo of the pink tulle dress on Reddit and showed how it had thin strips, a plunging neckline and a long midi-length skirt.
The wedding guest wrote: “Is pastel pink tulle ok as a wedding guest dress?
“Is a dress like this appropriate for a wedding guest?
“Like for a wedding with no dress code or a formal one?
“I feel like the long tulle of the skirt makes it feel kind of bridal and so I’m not sure.
“My friends say it looks appropriate.
“What does everyone else think?”
The potential outfit was pale pink in colour, and many people thought it was too light to be safe.
One person wrote: “If you think it’s too bridal…it probably is…
“This is too bridal to me.
“The long skirt in tulle in tulle and light colouring are just too close to a wedding dress.”
Another added: “Very similar to blush wedding dresses, I absolutely would not wear this to someone else’s wedding.”
A third commented: “This looks like a wedding dress to me. Definitely a no.”
Etiquette expert Myka Meier also advised against wearing light pink to weddings.
Myka, founder of Beaumont Etiquette, uploaded a video saying: “Don’t make these two mistakes for a summer wedding.”
Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette
If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble.
The first tip she had was to avoid a pale pink colour as a guest.
The New York-based expert explained: “Okay, first, let’s look at this.
“You think pale pink is a safe colour choice? Er, actually, it’s the colour of the season for brides.
“So imagine showing up to an event, it’s the bride, she’s wearing the same or similar dress as you, you don’t want that to happen.”
You may have a gorgeous floral dress you’ve been dying to wear to a special occasion, but Myka advised you also steer clear.
The etiquette pro continued: “Number two, look at this, you might think it’s safe. Florals, right, summer?
“Actually, it’s the worst thing you want to do because again, it’s on trend for brides to be wearing this year.”
