The Indiana FeverChicago Sky were headed into the crucial third quarter in June 2024, when Caitlin Clark’s then-rival Chennedy Carter shot a basket and knocked her on the court. An unaware Clark waited on an inbound pass from Aliyah Boston, and the contact was initially brushed off as a foul. However, the WNBA reviewed the situation before declaring the scenario a flagrant foul I. If this wasn’t enough, Angel Reese allegedly cheered for the team as Clark fell. What followed next was nothing short of a movie. It was a major outrage against Chennedy Carter for her physical altercation against the 2024 Rookie of the Year.

While the former Sky player cleared her stance on the incident with, “It’s one of those things that just happens in basketball. It was just like a little tap, like ‘I’m here.’ Not to like harm or anything. So in basketball, there are things called talking smack. That’s a part of basketball. I think a play before, maybe I was elbowed, okay, that happens.” Of course, the fans eventually blamed Carter for the ordeal, and in multiple ways.

Whether it was being called out for her temperamental issues, or the fact that she sat out of the entire 2023 WNBA season, the Texas native’s career trajectory has been a series of troughs and crests at the home front. However, the pro player has several international cameos under her belt, starting from 2020 when she was associated with the Turkish team, Elazig II Ozbek Idarespor. She continued playing internationally under another Turkish team, Bursa, in 2023, and proceeded to participate in the WBCA as part of team Heilongjiang, where she averaged 28.9 points per game.

Her latest stint was with Women’s Chinese Basketball Association, where Carter became the leading scorer of the league with 31.4 points per game. To add to the list, Carter recently signed a deal with a Mexican professional women’s basketball team, Adeliatas de Chihuahua.

The official Chihuahua account took to Instagram and broke the news of Carter’s signing. Calling her a “Rock on the Roster!“, the account shared a photograph of Carter along with her WNBA and international achievements. Managed by the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (UACH), the team competes in the Liga SíS Nova LNBP Femenil. Though she isn’t new to the international basketball scene and has even represented the United States on three different occasions, this sudden news has received a series of reactions from fans and college analysts alike.

Fans React to Chennedy Carter joining Mexican team

The news of Chennedy Carter joining the Mexican team, Adeliatas de Chihuahua, came across as a shock and surprise for fans and college analysts who set the internet into a frenzy.

One X user called @TiIlitstank shared a screenshot of the Mexican team’s post on X. Referring to Carter’s previously known reputation in the WNBA circles after the 2024 Caitlin Clark court incident, the user captioned the post with, “She’s actually blacklisted…wow…

The standout player averaged 14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and. 2.8 assists per game during her four-year career. Despite her gameplay being compared to Allen Iverson’s, Chennedy’s temperamental issues on the court have earned her the reputation of being a troubled player.

Meanwhile, a verified user @DavidWebb commented on the post, “She got booted off 3 teams in like 4 years. Teams see her as more trouble than she’s worth. Hopefully she can get some counselling and make a comeback, she’s obviously a great basketball player.

He further added to the original caption and pointed out how Carter, who began her WNBA career in 2020 with the Atlanta Dream, was suspended citing behaviour and discipline issues. That was not it. Things went further south for Carter after she made an illicit comment on her teammate over attitude issues and landed straight into the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022.

Troubles always followed the 26-year-old. As per sources, the interim Sparks coach, Fred Williams, barred Carter from entering the court on four occasions under “coach’s decision” after being benched for an entire season, citing poor conduct.

But the final blow came during her stint with the Chicago Sky, in the wake of the infamous CC incident, and seems like fans are still holding on to that 2024 mishap. A user, @SarcasmStardust, agreed to the original caption and wrote, “Pattern of behavior.

But when a user named Ashley wrote, “People seem to forget the fact that Chennedy was also released from two different teams (Atlanta and LA) because of “conduct detrimental to the team” because of her attitude in the locker room. Obviously the CC effect has affected her, but it also highlights her behaviour,” she received a befitting reply from a fan who corrected her.

The fan promptly replied and reasoned that it was the failure of the pro teams and the WNBA, who could neither contain a good player like Carter, nor provide her with better training opportunities or facilities to combat her temper. Highlighting the issues, they remarked, “The teams & League failed her. Knowing she has/had temper issues, they should have stepped up and gotten her the help she needs to help with that issue.”

Moreover, it is very clear from the caption and the comments that fans are unlikely to forget the whole CC incident. They have heavily judged the player based on the unfortunate event instead of appreciating her overseas stats and achievements on the home front.

On the other hand, @Roger__Hardy did not hold back and quick to comment, “Unrepentant knucklehead and team killer earns her pariah status on a daily basis.” When confronted on the hateful comment, Hardy added, “Facts, plain and simple. Chennedy didn’t play in the W in 2023, shunned again in 2025, and has done her part to wreck 4 lousy teams in her 4 WNBA seasons. She’s toxic and a loser.” He explained his disdain for Carter because she changed four teams throughout her career and missed an entire pro season. He feels that her behaviour is the sole reason that she had to switch, because no team would want a problematic player.

Talking about the Atlanta suspension and the LA incident, another user wrote, “She was “blacklisted” before too. She got another chance and, though I’m not privy on the exact details, apparently didn’t do enough to warrant keeping.” This comment grabbed eyeballs as another user recognised Carter’s talent and replied,  “I wouldn’t say black listed. She’s had character issues since before last season. Shame cause she can hoop.” Despite praising Chennedy for her basketball skills, the user questioned and implied faults in her character.

On the other hand, username @OHSportsGirl stated, “She’s not blacklisted. Teams just don’t want to take a chance on her bc she’s been a problem everywhere she has gone. Rebuilding teams care about culture and don’t want their young players to copy her behavior. Contenders don’t want to risk their locker room.

These comments portray the fans’ outrage against Carter, who think she’s been forced out of W, thanks to the whole Clark incident. Their anger is directed at the player for her actions last season. Of course, Carter is now looking forward to another new chapter in her career, and will be hoping to move away from the spotlight, at least for the time being.
