The spin-off of Prime Video’s Bosch starred Titus Welliver and continued the narrative of LAPD detective Harry Bosch. While no definitive reason for the cancellation was provided, the move came despite the series outperforming its predecessor in viewership during its debut season.

Titus Welliver revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that discussions for a fourth season were already underway during the filming of Season 3. “We’d already been in conversations midway towards the end of the season talking about the next season and ideas [for season four], and we were getting very excited about the prospect,” he said. However, he later received a call informing him that the series would not continue. “It was a pretty brief conversation. We all expressed our disappointment,” he added.

Welliver attributed the decision to broader financial challenges within the industry. “Sometimes it’s a myriad of reasons that I don’t necessarily understand,” he said. “I do understand that, given the economy and things like that, there are a lot of studios that have been experiencing budgetary restrictions.”

Although Bosch: Legacy concluded without a planned farewell, the Bosch franchise will continue. In March 2024, Amazon greenlit a spin-off focused on Renee Ballard, played by Maggie Q, introduced in the series finale. The new show, based on Michael Connelly’s novels, will center on Ballard leading the LAPD’s cold case unit. Welliver may also return in a supporting role.

He told The Direct he feels “very excited” about the upcoming series, which will premiere in Summer 2025.
