Countdown focuses on the murder mystery of an officer in the Department of Homeland Security. As a result, LAPD detective Mark Meachum joins a secret task force to solve this case. With fans hooked to the storyline, many are curious to know if there is another episode lined up. However, Countdown will not release a new episode this week.

Check out the release schedule of the crime drama series below.

Why Prime Video won’t release a new episode of Countdown this week

Prime Video won’t release a new episode of Countdown this week as the series is over.

The last episode was released on September 3, 2025. Fans began speculating about additional episodes, as many streaming platforms have recently been releasing episodes in parts. However, Countdown isn’t following this pattern and has ended with its 13th episode.

Further, fans have been eager to know about the show’s next chapters, but Countdown hasn’t been renewed or canceled for a Season 2 yet. Creator and showrunner Derek Haas recently opened up on the possibility of a second installment in his interview with Bleeding Cool. He stated, “Nothing new to share. I know there are a lot of fans over at Prime who really champion the show, so I’m hoping for great news, but not sure when the timing will be. Tell everyone who has been holding out for binging, now’s the time!”

In addition, Jensen Ackles, who leads the series as Mark, also gave a positive update on Season 2. He told Variety, “I think it was a smart writer choice to kind of wrap up the Season 1 storyline with three episodes to go. It gave Derek an opportunity to start building towards a next big case and a next big sendoff, and it obviously leaves Season 1 ending on a huge cliffhanger.”

Ackles further stated, “I think it was designed to lead into Season 2, so fingers crossed Amazon is still liking what they’re seeing, and the audience participation and the critics talking about it give us enough firepower to continue that story and see where this goes. Obviously, it would suck if it just ends there!”

While there is hope, fans must wait for an official confirmation on the show’s future.
