Crime shows have always had a firm grip on audiences, including TV series that tell gangster stories in a way that feels complicated, nuanced, and coherent. While it can be particularly tough to tell gangster stories well, the shows that are able to hit the mark make it clear that it can be done. The Sopranos, which began airing nearly 30 years ago, is a prime example.
