After Liam Payne’s unexpected death, his ex Cheryl Cole has been appointed to manage his estate. Since the singer did not leave behind a will, Cole will now help handle his finances along with a solicitor.
Liam Payne’s ex Cheryl Cole manages his estate
Nearly seven months after Liam Payne’s sudden passing, his ex Cheryl Cole has been appointed to oversee the administration of his estate, which is estimated to be worth $32.2 million. Payne, who died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina, did not have a will in place before his death. This has resulted in Cole, with whom he shares his 8-year-old son Bear, being granted joint responsibility alongside attorney Richard Mark Bray to manage Payne’s finances. (via PEOPLE)
According to court filings dated May 1, the estate’s value in the United Kingdom stands at approximately $32.2 million (net value). Under U.K. inheritance law, when a person dies without a will, their estate is typically inherited by the legal spouse or next of kin. In Payne’s case, his son Bear is expected to inherit the estate.
Although Cole and Bray have been given authority to manage the estate, current rules restrict them from distributing its contents until further legal steps are completed. BBC reports confirm that the pair can oversee the estate’s management but are not yet permitted to distribute any funds or property.
Cole and Payne were in a relationship between 2016 and 2018, and welcomed their son in 2017. After Payne’s death, Cole made a rare public statement mourning the loss, describing it as devastating. She wrote, “Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7 year old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.”
At the time of his passing, Payne had been in a long-term relationship with influencer Kate Cassidy.
