Showrunner Andrea Newman explained the reasoning behind his storyline, telling NBC Insider, “Carver is really on a journey of his own that he’s been on for a while, and we wanted to portray that in a realistic way. So what he’s going through is a lot.”

While Violet confesses her love for Carver in a heartfelt letter, she initially holds back from sending it to avoid triggering him.
