Some Swifties believe that Robert Prevost, who has recently been elected as the new Pope and took the name Leo XIV, could be a Taylor Swift fan. The theories arrived after fans claimed that Prevost allegedly “reshared” the pop icon’s album news on social media.

So, here’s why netizens are speculating that Pope Leo XIV is a fan of Swift and the truth behind these rumors.

Is new Pope Robert Prevost a Taylor Swift fan?

The “Cruel Summer” singer has fans worldwide, but Cardinal Robert Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, may not be one of them.

The post on X (formerly Twitter) that started the theories of Pope Leo XIV being a Swift fan is fake. As per the screenshot shared, it seemed like he reshared the release news of the singer’s 2024 album, The Tortured Poets Department, on X.

However, Robert Prevost does not have any X posts that mention Taylor Swift. Hence, the post in question was likely made by Swifties as a part of their inside jokes. Quipping on the theory of Pope Leo XIV being a Swiftie, a fan wrote on X, “Can he please ask God for Reputation (Taylor’s Version)?”

Robert Prevost was elected as the official new Pope of the Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Moreover, Pope Leo XIV became the first American to take on the responsibilities of the sovereign of the Vatican City. Meanwhile, his brother reacted to the news, calling it “unreal.” John Prevost told NBC Chicago, “It’s too unreal. I haven’t had time to think about it yet. It’s a tremendous, tremendous thing to take in, but it’s something to be very proud of.”

The 69-year-old new Pope held his first Mass on Friday, May 9, in the Sistine Chapel. In his first Mass, he pledged allegiance to align himself with “ordinary people” and against the rich and powerful. He said the “loss of religious faith” had led to “appalling violations of human dignity” around the globe. (via New York Times)

Before his first Mass, Pope Leo XIV had addressed his followers from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica on May 8. He also expressed his intention of “building bridges.”
