Days of Our Lives icon Deidre Hall delivered an unexpected slap to Today co-host Craig Melvin during a live segment, turning a routine morning interview into a headline moment.

On the June 19 episode, Melvin lived out a lifelong dream when Hall slapped him across the face. “Of all of the storylines that you’ve been a part of over the years—the coma, the demonic possession—what I’ve always enjoyed is your ability to slap,” he explained to her. “You’re a great slapper.”

A 50-year veteran of the soap, the Lucky in Love actress laughed as she thanked Melvin and admitted she had no idea how many onscreen slaps she’d handed out over the years. The Today host then made a very particular request of the DOOL star.

“It would be one of the greatest professional honors of my life if you would slap me,” Melvin asked. Deidre Hall was all in as she said, “I’d be privileged to slap you.”

The reaction from Melvin’s Today crew was pure excitement. He joked, “She’s gonna do what so many of them have wanted to do for years.” The 47-year-old, however, requested Hall to be gentle and avoid hurting his prized asset while she explained how they would pull off the slap.

“I’m gonna draw my hand back and I’m going to come very close to your face,” the OP Center actress explained. “And when you feel that happen, you’re gonna snap your head.”

Deidre Hall then went in with the slap, and Craig Melvin whipped his head around, putting on an exaggerated crying face before they both burst out laughing. “You’re the best,” he gushed to the 78-year-old.
