Why Big Avengers Characters May Not Get More Disney+ Shows From Marvel

Major characters like the Avengers might not get their own Disney+ shows, as per Marvel Head of Streaming, TV and Animation, Brad Winderbaum. This also comes after Marvel Studios decided to take a different approach in the future toward producing shows. After the massive success of Daredevil: Born Again, the studio is gearing up for its new TV series, Iron Heart, which is produced by Ryan Coogler and will be out next month.

Brad Winderbaum explains Avengers characters’ future on Disney+

Brad Winderbaum recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of Disney’s Upfront presentation and revealed the studio’s plans regarding big characters, like the Avengers, in Disney+ shows.

The Marvel TV & Streaming head asserted that the studio is now working on shows that will survive for more than one season and prefers not to include the Avengers. However, he did confirm there might be cameos.

He shared, “Producing shows with marquee names, it made it really challenging to produce second seasons; the margins on TV are smaller. Looking to the future, does it mean that we won’t have big Avengers names? No. They may not be the titular character of the show, but they can still make appearances.”

Winderbaum spoke about coming up with shows that seem like standalone but are still part of the wider MCU, thus giving new fans a chance to enjoy the series without being familiar with the universe. He conveyed, “You should be able to watch these shows on their own, without knowing the overall MCU story. But if it’s not connected, it’s severing what makes the MCU the MCU.”

These statements come after rumors of the aforementioned strategy were first reported by scooper Jeff Sneider. He further stated that the Vision series will be the last Marvel TV show “to feature major characters from the movies.”
