“Help the ones that want to be helped but might not have the help they need financially,” Grayson Murray once wrote in his handwritten notes on July 24, 2021. Sadly, three years later, on May 25, 2024, the 30-year-old golfer passed away due to suicide, as revealed by his parents in a statement. His father, Eric Murray, shared the heartbreaking news, saying, “It’s a nightmare that doesn’t stop.” Despite struggling, Grayson “tried to get better,” his father added. “He did everything he could.” In memory of Grayson, players at the Charles Schwab Challenge now take a small step each year to honor his legacy and spread awareness about mental health, ensuring his words and struggles are not forgotten.

And they’re doing it again — going green, that is. At the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge, the crowd will be decked out in emerald hues to support Mental Health Awareness and pay tribute to the unforgettable Grayson Murray during the 3rd round. It’s a subtle yet powerful statement, one that echoes the PGA Tour’s commitment to mental wellness and the Grayson Murray Foundation’s mission to keep his memory alive. By donning green, fans will be part of a larger movement that’s all about standing together and shining a light on the importance of mental health.

This annual gesture builds on the heartfelt tribute paid last year, where players at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge wore black and red ribbons in honor of Murray after his unexpected passing. Those ribbons held special significance, reflecting the colors of his beloved Carolina Hurricanes, which he proudly wore on Sundays. The PGA Tour community continues to rally around Murray’s legacy, ensuring his impact is felt long after his passing, with Commissioner Jay Monahan noting the profound and lasting effect of his loss on the golf world.

“It’s about the weeks ahead, it’s about the months ahead. There are a lot of people that are going to be carrying a heavy heart for a long period of time out on the PGA TOUR, and there’s a family that is obviously devastated that we need to support”, he said last year.

And these little gestures, which many think go unnoticed, pay off big time. And we mean big time.

Grayson Murray Foundation and Ben Hogan Foundation join forces for mental health

The Grayson Murray Foundation is pairing up with the Ben Hogan Foundation in a match made to support those navigating mental health challenges. Their partnership includes a $20,000 donation to The Ben Hogan Resilience Program, a comprehensive initiative that offers mental health support, academic resources, and job training for kids who’ve lost a parent to suicide. The Ben Hogan Foundation will also award a scholarship in Grayson Murray’s name, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire. Both foundations are on the same page when it comes to championing resilience, courage, determination, and perseverance.

This collaboration marks a significant step for the Grayson Murray Foundation, which was launched earlier this year to raise awareness and support for mental health and addiction challenges. As the Charles Schwab Challenge gets underway, the golf community is coming together to honor Murray’s memory and promote mental health awareness. From green “GM” buttons to honorary tee times, the spirit of compassion and resilience that defined Murray’s life and career is living on through these heartfelt gestures.
