WHO Wants to be a Millionaire’s return date has been revealed after its break from screens – and there’s not long to go.

The beloved ITV quiz show – which first started in 1998 – was rebooted in 2018, just four years after its axe.

Jeremy Clarkson took over hosting duties from Chris Tarrant and has became a firm fan-favourite ever since.

And now its return is confirmed – just over a month since the most recent series ended.

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire will air brand new episodes on ITV1 from Sunday, May 4th at 8pm.

Its return so soon after wrapping up its latest run will come as a surprise to viewers.

Bosses have split the new series into two parts, which is why new episodes are ready to air so quickly.

At the end of the final episode in March, the show’s official social accounts said new episodes would resume ‘later in the year’.

A spokesperson had said: “That’s it for tonight and the current series!

“Join us again, later in the year for more #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire… Good night!”

Jeremy Clarkson previously opened up about the most ‘terrifying’ part of hosting the show.

The Clarkson’s Farm star has confessed he is “hopeless” when it comes to his very own lifeline on the show – Ask The Host.

During their quest for a million pounds, show hopefuls are able to call on Jeremy’s knowledge to help them out with one of the questions but there is never a guarantee that he will know the answer.

Speaking about being handed in his own lifeline, the former Top Gear star said: “It’s still terrifying. This series I have been particularly hopeless.

“I was doing reasonably well on my average getting them right, but this series I have been really useless!”

Who has won the jackpot on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire has offered hundreds of hopeful contestants the chance to become millionaires, but there has only been a handful of lucky winners.

There have only been five real winners so far on the show as Charles Ingram, who was the third winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in 2001, had his claim to the prize thrown out because of cheating allegations.

The official winners are…

Judith Keppel

In 2000, garden designer Judith Keppel made quiz show history as she became the first ever winner of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Judith is also the only woman ever to have won the million-pound prize.

David Edwards

Former physics teacher David became the second contestant to win the top prize in April 2001. Following his success, Edwards went on to compete in both series of Are You an Egghead? in 2008 and 2009.

Robert Brydges

Oxford-educated banker Robert became the third Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? champion when he won the quiz show several moths after David in 2001. Robert has stayed out of the limelight since his win.

Pat Gibson

World champion Irish quiz player Pat won the show in 2004. Amazingly Pat had TWO of his lifelines still available for his final question, something no other winner has managed.

Ingram Wilcox

Ingram came close to losing on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in 2006 as he had used all his lifelines up at the £32,000 mark, but in a shocking twist he went on to scoop the jackpot.
