1 Who’s leaving Emmerdale in 2024? Nate Robinson recently bowed out of the village after actor Jurell Carter confirmed his exit earlier this year.
We also know there will be another exit ahead as Daisy Campbell bows out of her role as Amelia Spencer after 13 years on the show.
Here’s everyone who is leaving, returning and joining the cast of Emmerdale in 2024.
Who’s leaving Emmerdale in 2024?
Amelia Spencer
Daisy Campbell has played the character of Amelia Spencer for 13 years but sadly the character has now been axed from the show.
Amelia will leave the soap in scenes to air within the next couple of months.
Speaking to The Mirror about her upset over the axe, Daisy shared: “It wasn’t my choice to leave Emmerdale and it was a shock at first. Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.”
After some time processing the news, Daisy is now looking forward to taking on new acting roles and opportunities.
Leyla Harding
Rumours that actor Roxy Shahidi is set to leave the Dales have been rife since October.
Emmerdale has yet to confirm or deny this, but a source close to the celeb has said Roxy’s time will be soon coming to a conclusion.
“Roxy has adored her time on the soap and has made so many happy memories since first joining when she was 17,” a source told The Sun.
“The cast have become like family to her and she has grown so much as an actress, but now feels like the perfect time to spread her wings and try something new.
“She is really excited about her meaty exit storyline, which will see her character Leyla die on screen. She’d rather go out in a blaze of glory and be remembered.”
Roxy seems to have stuck roots outside of soapland, with the star competing on Dancing on Ice last year as well as joining reality show Drama Queens, which has since be cancelled.
As well as this, Roxy is a trained yoga instructor and shares fitness videos online for viewers to follow along.
Fans will remember Leyla for her long involvement in Emmerdale, where she joined 2008 before exiting in 2011. Since then, two episodes in 2013 before coming back full time in January 2014.
Last year her character was kidnapped as part of a dramatic stalking storyline. She has remained out of the bigger storylines recently, perhaps being a sign her character is ready to fly the nest…
Nate Robinson
Jurell Carter’s rumoured exit as Nate Robinson was first reported back in June.
A source reportedly told The Sun: “Nate has been at the centre of some huge storylines and his exit will be no different.
“It will be dramatic and explosive and will go down in Emmerdale history. It won’t be one to miss.
“Jurell has loved being on the soap but he’s a young actor and it’s understandable he wants to spread his wings.”
Fans barely had time to take in this news before his exit storyline started to play out.
Things looked to be going well for Nate. As well as being offered a new job in Scotland, he’d worked things out with Tracy. Nate, Tracy and Frankie were planning a new life across the boarder together.
However, things didn’t quite go to plan. With Moira suffering from ill health, she moved in for a kiss with former flame Nate. Despite Nate pulling away, the interaction was witnessed by Caleb and he got the wrong end of the stick.
Nate’s family quickly turned on him, refusing to hear his explanation. Dad Cain threw punches and Tracy recanted on her decision to go to Scotland with him.
Nate left the village alone, though some fans are not convinced he really did go as they didn’t actually see him leave. So watch this space.
Suni Sharma and Nicky Miligan
Actors Lewis Cope and Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana exited the soap earlier in the summer.
Prior to leaving, Nicky managed to survive his and Ethan’s car accident after awaking from a coma.However, after finding out that his mum Ruby was responsible for Ethan’s hit and run, Nicky wanted nothing to do with her.
He soon suggested moving away from the Dales with Suni in a bid to get away from his family. With Suni also facing family drama thanks to half-brother Jai’s lies and deceit, Suni was equally enthused about leaving the place behind.
At the time, a source told The Sun: “The feeling is that the characters weren’t given a fair shot.
“They’re hungry to hone their craft to show what they can do and don’t want to be used as glorified set dressing.”
Samson Dingle
Samson left Emmerdale back in August.
It was first rumoured Sam Hall would be leaving his role as Samson Dingle, which he has played since he was five years old, back in April.
The Sun reported that Sam was informed that his character will be axed, with a source reportedly telling the paper: “Sam had a meeting with bosses earlier this month where they broke the news.
“He has been left devastated. He’s grown up with his on-screen Dingle clan and they are all very protective of him.
“The fact that they are planning on killing him off means there’ll be no way back for him either.”
Fortunately, this proved not to be correct and the door has been left open for Samson.
Samson’s exit saw him sentenced to four years in jail after he was arrested for attacking former friend Josh Cope.
Following his exit, Sam Hall said: “So, as you’ve seen, Samson has now left the village. It’s been a great storyline, so I’d like to thank everyone who’s been with me, cast and crew, over the last 15 years.”
However, he hinted at a possible return, teasing: “Hopefully, we’ll see Samson again.”
Ethan Anderson
On Wednesday May 22 Ethan was run down by Ruby Fox-Miligan. At the time, he managed to get himself up and refused to go to hospital.
However, a week later, Ethan collapsed onto the floor whilst at home with Charles ahead of his court trial for Nicky’s car accident.
As Charles and Manpreet desperately tried to resuscitate him, an unconscious Ethan was rushed to hospital but couldn’t be saved.
Ruby was left feeling guilty as she believed that Ethan died due to her hit and run as she watched Charles grieve the loss of his son.
Who else has left Emmerdale in 2024
Two other characters have departed the Dales this year – Heath Hope and Amit Sharma.
Bob Hope’s son, Heath, was confirmed dead just minutes into the New Year’s Day episode as he was involved in a car smash.
Despite all attempts to save an injured Heath from the wreckage, it was clear that he had died on impact and couldn’t be brought back to life.
These tragic scenes marked the departure of Sebastian Dowling from the soap, after having played the role of Heath for 17 years alongside his real-life twin sister and Cathy Hope actress, Gabrielle Dowling.
Heath’s death turned his family’s world upside down. But, can they all support each other through their unimaginable grief?
Meanwhile Amit was forced to leave by Jai Sharma after he discovered Amit had killed his dad, Rishi. Jai pushed Amit down the stairs, locked him in a cupboard, then eventually let him go on the proviso Amit signed everything over to him and left without saying goodbye to anybody.
Amit agreed, but will he ever be back?
Pearl Ladderbanks
Earlier this year it was revealed Pearl Ladderbanks, former vet receptionist, had also died. Rhona, Paddy and Vanessa received a letter breaking the news to them.
Although no further mention has been made of her death, it comes after actress Meg Johnson, who played Pearl, died aged 86 in July 2023.
Zak Dingle
Although a departure hasn’t formally been announced, after the death of actor Steve Halliwell in December 2023, it seems likely Zak Dingle will be leaving the soap in 2024.
He’s currently in Scotland on-screen living with granddaughter Debbie Dingle. Zak has been referenced several times recently. His absence from daughter Belle’s wedding was explained by him being “too ill” to attend. But could the illness lead to an exit storyline?
Emmerdale has not revealed how or when Zak will go on-screen, although they did pay tribute to him late last year as the credits rolled. The soap may leave it another year or two before Zak will bow out, out of respect. But it stands to reason a character as long-standing and much-loved as Zak will get the send-off he deserves. And we’ll need all the tissues to watch it.
Who’s returning to Emmerdale in 2024?
Ross Barton
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that Michael Parr would be reprising his role as Ross Barton.
The popular character was last seen in the village in 2018 when he left the ‘Dales for a new life in Liverpool following the devastating acid attack.
His return was first teased in a comedy video on the Emmerdale social media pages, with the soap eventually confirming the news.
Speaking about his return, Michael said: “I’m over the moon to be returning to Emmerdale. Ross is a character I’m extremely fond of and I’m excited to explore what he’s been up to over the past five years.
“After seeing the scripts, I can’t wait for the audience to see what’s in store. One thing I can say is Ross’s return will no doubt create fireworks.”
Angelica King
In March 2024 Angelica King was sentenced to eight months in a secure children’s home after she was driving the car that killed Heath Hope. She is now off screen, but could end up serving less time depending on her behaviour.
On Angelica’s time away, Nicola Wheeler, who plays Nicola King, Angel’s mum, recently revealed to Digital Spy: “Also, looking to the future, I would just say: ‘What is to come?’ Because what is Angel going to be like when she leaves the place? That is the big question, isn’t it? For eight months of her life, Nicola and Jimmy don’t have any control or influence over her at all.”
Actress Rebecca Bakes has confirmed she will be back as Angelica once the character returns home from the SCH. It seems she is having time off from the soap to complete her exams.
Taking to her Instagram stories after her exit, Rebecca shared a behind-the-scenes photo and wrote: “Had an amazing time filming this storyline, can’t wait to get back to it.”
This post suggests that the teenager will return to the role in the future, with the character not likely to be recast. It paves the way for a Christmas comeback for Angel, but what will she be like when she returns?
Who’s arriving in Emmerdale in 2024?
Osian Morgan
Former Waterloo Road star Osian Morgan joined the soap for two months in June. He played the aforementioned Josh Cope.
Earlier this year, a report revealed Osian, who played bad boy Miles Massey in the school drama, was joining the soap for Sam’s exit storyline.
The Sun quoted an insider as saying: “He’s coming in as a new pal who turns Samson Dingle’s head.
“They become firm friends and start to plan a big trip around Europe but this new lad puts the backs up of Lydia and Sam.
“He’s set to cause chaos in the Dales.” He certainly did that.
Who else has joined Emmerdale this year?
Rose
Rose played by Christine Tremarco arrived when she was seen with Will Taylor in the hospital. It was then revealed she was Dawn’s estranged mum.
Although Dawn didn’t want anything to do with her at first, when Kim Tate tried to pay Rose to leave Dawn decided to try to give her mum a chance. She moved her in to Home Farm while she recovered from a broken arm.
However it was revealed that Rose was working with Ruby to bring Kim Tate down. After her plotting was discovered, she was run out of the village. But given her ties to the village, she could pop up again.
Ella
Ella, played by Paula Lane, joined Emmerdale earlier this year in one of the soap’s more hard hitting storylines.
Following months of mystery, it was later revealed that Ella was in fact a child killer.
When she was 11 years old, she killed her best mate in a jealous rage. Although she now has a new identity, the truth has followed Ella around.
