Gogglebox is back for another season of couch commentary, funny quips and shocking TV moments – with five new groups joining the mix.
The Channel 4 series is entering its 13th year with a whopping 25 seasons under its belt, and it is showing no signs of slowing down.
As we gear up for season 26, premiering tonight, there’s much change in the air after Scottish couple Roisin and Joe Kyle were ‘axed’ from the show.
In a statement to social media at the time, they wrote: ‘After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it’s time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and has not asked us back for season 26. Therefore, we are leaving the Gogglebox family.’
Meanwhile, there are a slew of fresh faces coming on board.
Mike Cotton, Creative Director for Studio Lambert said: ‘It’s a delight to welcome some new households to the Gogglebox family. Along with our much-loved returning cast, we can’t wait to join them in their living rooms and hear their candid thoughts on this week’s most talked about TV.’
So, without further ado, here are the 21 couples this season.
The five new Gogglebox households
Jake and Calum
Jake, 27, and Calum, 31 are friends from Glasgow.
The Gordon Family
The Gordon family hails from Surrey and is made up of Andre, 49, Sarah, 47, and their daughter Chee, 25.
Andrew and Alfie
Married couple Andrew, 62, and Alfie, 32, are from The Cotswolds.
Sara and Lara
Mother and daughter-in-law, Sara, 87, and Lara, 58, are from Yorkshire.
Rosie and Susie
Sisters Rosie, 68, and Susie, 70, from Edinburgh, are also joining our new cohort.
The returning cast
Siddiqui family
The Siddiqui family – brothers Baasit, Umar and Raza alongside their father Sid – have been on the show since it started back in 2013.
The Gogglebox staples live in Derby and have tickled and delighted viewers with their witty commentary.
Discussing why they are so loved by viewers to Metro in 2023, Sid said: ‘I think it is quite cute in a way that a father and his sons… watch TV together.
‘We try to be as we are. We are not very good actors. We are what we are so that is probably another element of it.’
Jenny Newby and Lee Riley
There is perhaps no couple more recognisable from the show than chaotic friends Jenny and Lee.
Together, they’ve been on the show since 2014 and have been through a lot, from being compared to Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Jenny becoming a great-grandma for a third time.
The best friends live in Patrington Haven caravan park in Hull and have been thick as thieves for over 30 years.
The Malone family
The Malones – dad Tom Sr, mum Julie, and children Lee, Vanessa, Tom Jr, and Shaun – are another 2014 addition to the show.
A different combination of the kids will join their parents during the episodes (although Tom Jr left the show in 2021), with the family’s Rottweilers also making cameos now and then.
Earlier this year, the Malones said goodbye to their beloved dog Bob on social media.
Mum Julie wrote: ‘Today we said goodbye to our beautiful protective Bobby , he spent his last day doing what he loved , watching over the Grandchildren playing in the garden .We are heartbroken
Giles Wood and Mary Killen
Giving Jenny and Lee a run for their money when it comes to the most-talked-about Gogglebox duo is married couple Giles and Mary.
Known for their upper class aesthetic and more right-leaning politics, the pair have sparked plenty of discourse over the years with their hot takes.
The couple have been married for over 30 years and has two adult daughters together.
When it comes to their private life, most recently, Mary revealed she has a vape addiction as she opened up about how exactly it came about.
Ellie and Izzi Warner
Sisters Ellie and Izzi have been in the nation’s living room since 2015, during which time they have grown their families and taken their followers along for the ride.
In March, Izzi’s 10-year-old son delighted fans after dressing up as Claudia Winkleman for World Book Day.
Reacting to the epic costume to Metro, Claudia said: ‘He’s phenomenal. All my friends sent it to me. I thought he looked so amazing. And when I go to the castle, I might phone him and ask him for tips. I wish I looked like that.’
David and Shirley Griffiths
This Welsh husband and wife duo have been stirring up a storm on screens since 2015.
They have a penchant for trouble, like the time Dave dug out an old viagra and some blood pressure pills from an old drawer, prompting him to declare: ‘I must have some good times planned. No wonder I need the blood pressure tablets, to offset the Viagra!’
Ironically, as for which TV show they would switch off, Shirley told Metro she is ‘not a lover of the Naked Attraction where they strip off.’
Plummer family
Brothers Tremaine, Twaine and Tristan are popular Gogglebox cast members who have been on the show since 2016.
They have quickly made a name for themselves as the show’s resident heartthrobs, with nearly all the brothers making a career out of football at one point or another.
They’ve not shared much about their private lives, but in 2020, Tremaine celebrated five years cancer-free by sharing a photo of himself in the hospital on social media.
‘The entire experience has been an eye-opener and I view life totally different now. Stay strong,’ he said at the time.
Amira and Amani Rota
The sisters have been cracking some excellent commentary since 2018 with Amira describing herself as a ‘full-time couch potato’.
Amani was originally reluctant to join Amira on the sofa, once telling Heat magazine: ‘My personality is not very out there. I didn’t have the confidence to do it to begin with, but then I got out of my comfort zone and said yes.’
And they are not shy about making their views very clear. During Trump and Zelensky’s heated meeting, where the Ukrainian president didn’t wear a suit, the pair said: ‘‘Oh, yes! That is a man right there. He said, “I’ve got bigger problems than wearing a suit”.’
Worthington family
The Worthingtons – Alison, George and their daughter Helena – have been on the show since 2017.
They’ve wreaked all sorts of havoc over the years, like the time Helena admitted she didn’t actually own a TV.
‘I don’t really watch telly at home, I don’t have a TV but [Gogglebox is] how I catch up on what’s going on. I go to my mum’s and use her electric to watch the telly,’ she told OK! a couple of years ago.
On the show itself, Helena sometimes brings along her young son Erwin to join in on the family fun.
Pete and Sophie Sandiford
Brother and sister duo Pete and Sophie Sandiford joined full-time back in 2018 and have been having a riot on TV ever since.
The Blackpool siblings not only deliver hilarious commentary but it has been discovered that they even have some famous relatives.
That’s right, Paul and Barry Chuckle (of ‘to me, to you’ fame) are their great uncles.
Discussing how brilliant they find their great-nephew and niece to Metro, Paul said: ‘I think they’re the funniest couple on [Gogglebox]. They’re just lovely kids.’
Abbie Lynn and Georgia Bell
Abbie and Georgia are best friends from Durham who joined Gogglebox in 2018.
Their friendship truly shone in 2023 when Georgia asked Abbie to be the godmother to her baby, Hugh.
The sweet moment, which was televised, saw Abbie letting out a high-pitched shriek of shock, before running to her best friend for a tight hug.
‘Oh my God!’, she exclaimed at the time.
During another episode, Abbie left viewers in hysterics when she confused a geologist for a gynaecologist, so just your run-of-the-mill on the show.
Sue and Steve Sheehan
This married couple from South London have been on the show since 2019 – with Steve working as a black cab driver and Sue being semi-retired.
At the end of 2024, fans showered Sue in support when she revealed that she has been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy.
Opening up about the condition on the show, she said: ‘I mean, I’ve had to relearn to do a couple of things since this Bell’s palsy.
‘One is to speak through the side of my mouth, and the other one is chewing. Chewing takes a long time.’
Simon and Jane Minty
Regulars since 2021, siblings Simon and Jane Minty are heaps of fun on the show.
Simon has been open about his experience with dwarfism and a few years ago, even competed in the World Dwarf Games where he did powerlifting / bench press.
It’s not all been smooth sailing, however.
Last year, the disability consultant and trainer shared the difficulties he had encountered while travelling.
Ronnie and Annie
Again, Ronnie and Annie from South London joined in 2021 and immediately made a sweet impression by holding hands as they watched TV.
The pair are fairly private about their lives away from the screen so there is not much to be known about them.
Although if there is one thing we know for sure, it is that Ronnie can make an excellent cup of tea.
A few years ago, she also voiced her displeasure for Boris Johnson during Partygate. ‘I’m really upset Ronnie, I was a Boris fan. But gradually he’s gone down and down and down. I think he’s got to go, he’s got to go,’ she one episode.
Teresa and Anita
This couple are a very new addition to the rolling cast, joining in 2024.
So far they have made a mixed impression when fans were left unimpressed by their sofa-sitting habits.
During one episode, the pair took off their slippers and put their feet up on the couch, with some calling to ‘defund Channel 4’ at the sight.
Nonetheless, the Solihull locals have also gathered lots of fans with their humorous thoughts.
Michael, Sally, Jake and Harry
Last but not least are the newest additions to the Gogglebox family – parents Michael and Sally with their 17-year-old twin sons Jake and Harry.
They’ve got off to a rocky start after Jake seemed to flippantly swear at his mum while watching the Tom Hanks-narrated nature documentary, The Americas.
Fans reprimanded the teen online, calling it ‘utterly, utterly disgraceful’ behaviour.
Gogglebox airs on Friday, September 5 at 9pm on Channel 4.
