To say that the makers of The White Lotus have been slowly building towards a jam-packed, blood-soaked season three finale would be a grotesque understatement.
For weeks on end now, fans of Mike White’s Sky series have been tuning in to be fed dribs and drabs about potential killers and possible motives leading to a character’s death.
At the end of each week, just as it feels like a major plot theory is going to be revealed, White cruelly withholds the vital pieces of information we need to understand who was murdered at the beginning of episode one.
But, testament to his prowess, ahead of Monday’s final episode it’s quite exhilarating to ponder the myriad storylines that could reach a gruesome crescendo, as some fans have even theorised that the lizard is Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) reincarnated. I’m not so sure about that one.
And with recent reports over the past few weeks suggesting off-screen drama as well as on-screen – with Jason Isaacs revealing ‘friendships were lost’ during filming – it’s all starting to feel a little juicy.
So, without further ado here are the seven strongest theories for who could die in The White Lotus finale.
Greg kills again

The most obvious conclusion to the third season of The White Lotus has to be that Greg (Jon Gries) kills again.
After supposedly playing a hand in Tanya’s iconic death at the end of the second series, Greg – or Gary, as he has been referred to this season – has his eyes set on keeping Belinda quiet.
In episode seven there was a breathless moment when he bribed Belinda with $100,000 to keep her mouth shut.
But the spa worker seems destined to not take the cash, which could leave open the possibility that Gary kills her to keep the police from asking him questions.
We have also already seen that Belinda’s son, Zion, was involved in the terrifying shooting in episode one.
But it could also perhaps be the case that Belinda kills Gary in an act of defence.
Tim shoots himself

It’s hard to think of a character in any television show who has had as bad a holiday as Tim, played by the wonderful Jason Isaacs.
Death seems to be knocking on his door in the form of hidden guns and terrifying visions of him shooting his family members and himself.
With the disgrace of a business deal gone wrong haunting him at home, it could very well be the case that Tim decides to take his own life after killing his family.
Gaitok has also had several run-ins with the North Carolina businessman, so he could also be shot by Tim.
Whether it’s a gun or a combination of booze and medication that sees Tim die, it wouldn’t be much of a shock to see him go.
Saxon snaps

In terms of stressful holidays, it must run in the family for Tim’s children.
After sharing an incestual experience with his brother Lochlan (Sam Nivola), Patrick Schwarzenegger’s character could be a very likely candidate to either die or kill someone else.
With Greg breathing down his neck after he shared a night of passion with his girlfriend Chloe, it again wouldn’t be surprising to see Saxon go in Monday’s finale.
If his own father doesn’t already kill him, he could also snap after he hears about his father’s business deal gone wrong and decide to shoot him himself.
Either way, Saxon certainly is one of the less stable characters in season three.
Valentin and his gang strike again

After it was revealed that Valentin and his Russian friends were responsible for the armed robbery at the hotel, who’s to say that the three aren’t capable of murder?
If Gaitok decides to make it public that the three Russians were behind the robbery, they could very likely snap and try to keep him quiet.
The trio have caused major drama already with the other trio of girls in the hotel.
Valentin’s night he spent round Jaclyn’s led to some very frosty exchanges at breakfast alongside Laurie and Kate.
Also, after Laurie made a quick escape from one of Valentin’s friend’s house after he pleaded for money, perhaps the Russians could step up their efforts to rob the American friends.
Gaitok sacrifices himself

Gaitok’s relationship with Mook has been one of the more mellow storylines in this season’s White Lotus.
The adorable security guard opened up in episode seven about how he doesn’t like violence.
This was at the expense of not sounding cool in front of Mook, but in episode eight this could likely change.
If the Russians suspect that Gaitok knows they completed the robbery, the security guard could choose to be a hero and sacrifice himself for someone else.
Equally, with all the training he has been doing in the shooting range, he could put those skills to good use and kill somebody else.
Chelsea dies

Towards the beginning of series three, Rick (Walton Goggins) seemed a very likely candidate to die as he planned to meet with the man who killed his father.
Carrying grief and a great deal of pain, not even Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) seemed to be able to get him out of his mood.
But, as the series has gone on Chelsea could be a very strong candidate to die in the last episode on Monday.
After two close run-ins with death with the robbery and snake bite, as Chelsea said herself ‘bad luck runs in three’.
After Rick admitted that he got some closure in Bangkok, it could also be the case that he sacrifices himself in for Chelsea, who he clearly does have strong feelings for.
The trio of friends backstab each other, literally?

Over the course of seven episodes, the three friends Laurie, Kate, and Jaclyn have slowly started to despise each other even more.
After Jaclyn secretly had sex with Valentin, Laurie has never been the same since.
With the Russians involved as well, and with one of them wanting money from Laurie, anything seems possible.
But this outcome does seem one of the more unlikely scenarios ahead of Monday.
It looks like their form of backstabbing only goes as far as gossiping behind each other’s backs.
Could it be one of the monkeys?

Last, and maybe least, is a delightfully far-fetched theory online that monkeys in Thailand are going to be involved.
Many people have remembered the lethal fruit that Saxon picked up early in season three.
Others have theorised that Jennifer Coolidge’s character has been reincarnated as a lizard.
But some are predicting that one of the hotel monkeys is going to seize a gun and run wild.
Unfortunately, while this would be pretty amazing to watch, Michelle Monaghan, who plays Jaclyn, has claimed that ‘the monkeys did not do it’.
The White Lotus airs Monday at 2am on Sky Atlantic and is available to stream on NOW.
