Rebuilding the Baylor Bears is nothing new for team head coach Scott Drew. The recent incident, where his team doesn’t exist, is the perfect example of what a haunted history chapter looks like. Drew joined the Bears in 2003 as HC- a grave and turbulent time to join when the Bears were in a deep pit.
Whether it was scholarship restrictions, season bans, or the NCAA troubles, Drew has seen the dark side of the sport at a very young time in his coaching career. In fact, his constant efforts uplifted the team and set it up and running. But with the present scenario in place, how will the HC solve this astounding yet uphill task?
Why do the Baylor Bears Men’s Team Have No Players?
The Baylor Bears Men’s team has no players on the roster currently. No veteran players or substitutes to call theirs either. Well, this downright bizarre scenario seems right out of a horror flick. But this truth is far stranger than fiction. The official Bears account shared a photograph of last year’s roster with each member crossed out in red as a sarcastic caption read, “Safe to call this one the final update.”
The Baylors team from last year ceases to exist as players are either getting transferred, graduating from college, or being drafted in the NBA. Besides, better playing opportunities and NIL deals have lured a lot of student-athletes into their laps. This is a nightmare for any college team and the NCAA will have to come up with more stringent rules to avoid such mishaps.
Where Did Each Player of Baylor Bears Men’s Team Go?
The empty Bears roster is a result of a couple of factors. Efficient players like Jeremy Roach, Jayden Nunn, and Norchad Omier graduated from their respective courses, thereby bringing their basketball journey with the Bears to an end. Being the first college team to ever undergo a situation of this kind, the Baylor Bears are set to lose senior player, VJ Edgecombe to the upcoming NBA drafts.
Besides this, the team also lost some of their key players to transfer portals with Rob Wright III committed to Brigham Young University (BYU), whereas Langston Love has clearly stated his intentions towards Georgetown. Meanwhile, remaining players Jalen Celestine, Joshua Ojianwuna, Jason Asemota, and Kaleb Jackson too have already registered their respective names in the upcoming transfers portal.
What’s Next for Baylor Bears?
Every cloud has a silver lining! As a team that has seen the darkest of days and the brightest of nights, Baylor Bears are focusing on re-building their roster afresh. The team is essentially starting from scratch after losing every player from last year’s team to eligibility, transfers, and contracts.
Head coach Scott Drew and his staff are trying to revive the dead team by urgently signing transfers and looking to fill the roster spot by spot. Having said that, Andre Iguodala II recently gave his commitment to join the team. But with only incoming players and no returning core, chemistry and system integration will be critical challenges that the coaches will need to work upon.
