Sheinelle Jones, a familiar face on the Today Show‘s Third Hour, has been off the air for several months. As a regular co-host of the show’s Third Hour, her absence has sparked concern among viewers. While NBC has not made any formal announcement, her co-stars have recently opened up about the situation.
Here are more details.
Why is Sheinelle Jones absent from Today Show?
Sheinelle Jones has been noticeably absent from the Today Show since December 2024, and now her colleagues are speaking out with updates. Dylan Dreyer, who co-hosts the 3rd Hour with Jones, recently addressed the situation at the 2025 Kentucky Derby. She shared that Jones is “doing all right” and “hanging in there” as she navigates through a difficult time.
Dreyer said, “We’re praying for her and her family. You know, she’s just going through a tough time with her family.” She added that the team checks in with her daily. The host said, “We talk to her every day. One of us on the team talks to her every single day, and we’re there to support her, and we’ll welcome her back with open arms the second she can get back to us.” (via E! News)
In January, Jones briefly addressed her absence on Instagram, saying she was taking time to focus on a family health matter. She thanked fans for their concern and expressed her gratitude for the support of both viewers and her Today co-hosts. Jones wrote, “I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”
Carson Daly also spoke about Jones in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, noting that there is still no set date for her return. Daly said, “We’re wishing her well and she’s spending much-needed time with her family and that’ll just take its course. And there’s so much love going out to her.”
