McStay passed away peacefully in his sleep after having lunch with his children, according to The Daily Mail, which first reported the news. He is survived by his wife, actress Jennifer Clulow, and their two sons.

McStay’s television breakthrough came with the role of Sergeant Perryman in ITV’s No Hiding Place, where he appeared in over 80 episodes. He later played Derek Moberley in the Doctor Who serial The Seeds of Doom in 1976.
