Cleveland Cavaliers fans were left holding their breath Tuesday night as Donovan Mitchell exited to the locker room during the third quarter of Game 5 against the Indiana Pacers. Already questionable to play due to a sprained left ankle he aggravated in Sunday’s Game 4, Mitchell appeared to tweak it again and limped off the floor.
The Cavs were trailing as Mitchell made his way off, and his absence adds serious pressure with Cleveland already down in the series. The timing couldn’t be worse, as Mitchell has been the team’s offensive engine throughout the playoffs. If he’s unable to return, the Cavaliers may need to turn to De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome for an unexpected spark.
With the Pacers holding a fourth-quarter lead, Cleveland’s season could be in jeopardy — and Mitchell’s injury only deepens the concern heading into the closing minutes of a must-win Game 5
