Bella Hadid recently opened up about her ongoing health challenges as fans want to know what autoimmune disease does the supermodel have. In a recent interview, Hadid emphasized the widespread misunderstanding surrounding chronic illnesses like hers. The model has reportedly been battling her autoimmune disease for over a decade.

Bella Hadid spoke about her autoimmune disease in her latest British Vogue interview. The 28-year-old supermodel has been battling Lyme disease, which was diagnosed in 2012. Hadid’s mother, Yolanda, and her brother, Anwar, also have the same autoimmune disease. Additionally, Hadid also battles with depression, anxiety, ADHD, endometriosis, PMDD, and PCOS.

For the uninitiated, Lyme disease is an illness caused by Borrelia bacteria. Generally one can get the disease “from the bite of a tick carrying the bacteria.” Mayo Clinic noted, “Ticks that can carry borrelia bacteria live throughout most of the United States. But Lyme disease is most common in the upper Midwest and the northeastern and mid-Atlantic states.”

Hadid shared that living through chronic illnesses is tricky. She revealed, “There are days that I felt down on myself for being so sensitive,” adding, “I think nobody really understands chronic illness. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star said people “make fun” of her for being “overcompensating.”

The reality TV star further shared, “It’s hard to take a shower most days.” She insisted, “if you’re reading this, I shower every day. But sometimes, if I have one day off, if I can get in the shower and make myself breakfast, I see that as an accomplishment.”

On top of her health struggles, Hadid is constantly at the center of social media discourse. The celebrity addressed the stereotypes of online discussions, stating, “And then people see me on the other side, and it’s all: ‘Oh, my God, she’s this or she’s that.'”

However, all is not bleak in the supermodel’s world, as she disclosed she is “back in therapy.” The sister of Gigi Hadid said, “I’m back in therapy working on my confidence and my self-love issues.”
