Their star is located at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, which is adjacent to Amoeba Music. It marks the 2,810th star to be handed out since the famed tourist attraction opened back in 1960.
US TV presenter, DJ and music exec Matt Pinfield served as emcee, marking his first public appearance since he suffered a stroke in January.
“What an honour it is to be here today with these three guys that I love. Love their music and love them as people,” said the former MTV host at the ceremony. “[‘Dookie’] made so many young people pick up guitars, bass, and drums, and want to sing and write songs.” Pinfield continued: “That is what punk rock, rock and roll music is all about. That beauty, that love, a passing on of that gift. And that’s the thing that’s so special about Green Day and why it’s such an honour to be here today.”
He also hailed Billie Joe Armstrong and co. as “one of the greatest live bands” of current times. The band’s frequent collaborator Rob Cavallo also spoke, looking back on producing their third album ‘Dookie’ (1994).
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds took to the mic too. The actor’s speech began with him joking about Green Day “being the only child of Doris Day”.
Reynolds then spoke about the inspiration to use ‘Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)’ for the end credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, and called Green Day an “iconic band”.
“Anyone who knows me knows how deeply invested I am when it comes to certain songs in the films that I produce or co-write,” he explained. “I get attached in a way that words are not agile enough to express.”
Reynolds went on: “And I had this thought about the end credits sequence of the movie. To me, it felt like an opportunity to do something that expressed warmth and gratitude and love – instead of it just being what they usually do in these movies […] I wanted this to be something that felt poignant.”
The actor recalled hearing ‘Good Riddance’ in a cafe, telling the crowd that he “always loved this song”. Reynolds noted how the people around him responded to the song, adding: “It felt like a moment of togetherness.”
He also praised Green Day for being at the “intersection of both nostalgia and evolution” with their music, before speaking about his recently-formed friendship with the three members.
When Green Day arrived at the podium, frontman Armstrong began: “Wow, this is crazy. I didn’t write anything down, but I just wanna thank my family. This is for my mom – this is like my mom’s Super Bowl right now […] This is kinda like being at your own funeral.”
He added: “Thank you to all of our friends that bought our records and come to our shows. We love you guys so much.”
Armstrong later passed the mic to his bandmates Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt, with the latter saying: “Thank you so much for giving us a safe place to have band practice, giving me a safe place to live when I was in high school […] I’d like to thank my mom, for telling me that you can do anything you wanna do ’cause you’ve got nothing to lose.”
Later, Armstrong shouted out Pinfield: “His knowledge of music and his history of rock and roll is… you can’t compare it to anything else. He knows everything – he’s a true music lover. Thank you for coming out and doing this. We love you so much, Matt.”
You can watch the full ceremony in the video above.
Additionally, Armstrong shared a series of photographs from the Walk Of Fame ceremony on social media. In the caption, he reflected on how the event felt “like a fever dream”. He continued: “To see a lot of our friends and family all together to celebrate the Walk Of Fame was unreal and beautiful.”
The honour comes shortly after Green Day played two headline sets at Coachella 2025. During the first weekend of Coachella, they altered lyrics from ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ to comment on the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
Last month saw Green Day share a surprise new single called ‘Smash It Like Belushi’ and announce a deluxe reissue of ‘Saviors’ – their Number One album that was released in 2024.
In a four-star review of the original record, NME wrote: “There’s also some serendipity in the band hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of ‘Dookie’ and 20 years of ‘American Idiot’ later this summer. Not only does ‘Saviors’ spiritually bridge the gap between the two, but it uses the palette of the best of the band to tell us something else.”
