Watch Gracie Abrams cover Lorde’s ‘Liability’ in Auckland

Gracie Abrams delivered a cover of Lorde‘s ‘Liability’ at her show in Auckland earlier this week. Watch the footage below.

The singer-songwriter took to the stage at the Spark Arena in Lorde’s hometown yesterday (Tuesday April 29) as part of her current New Zealand and Australia tour.

Towards the end of the main set, Abrams treated the crowd to a tender, stripped-back rendition of ‘Melodrama’ ballad ‘Liability’. The artist performed the song solo on an electric piano.

As Rolling Stone notes, usually plays one of her own rarities during the surprise-song segment of her concert – but chose to perform the cover to coincide with her visit to Auckland.

Abrams had previously covered ‘Liability’ at two gigs in Copenhagen and London in 2022 and 2023, respectively, according to Setlist.FM. Check out her latest version from New Zealand here:

She released her second and latest album, ‘The Secret Of Us’, last summer before sharing a deluxe edition in the autumn. In a four-star review of the original version, NME said there were “echoes of Lorde’s effervescent second album ‘Melodrama’”.

It added: “The megawatt ‘Close To You’ gives the artist her ‘Green Light’ moment. It’s a breathless flourish of lush synth pulses and layered backing vocals.”

Abrams recently ushered in the start of “Lorde summer” in a post on Instagram, after the Kiwi star made her return with her new single ‘What Was That’.

This week, Abrams will continue her current tour with three shows in Sydney ahead of further stops in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

She’ll then play numerous UK and European dates this summer – including slots at Glastonbury, BST Hyde Park, TRNSMT, Mad Cool and Rock Werchter. These will be followed by a North American headline tour.

Earlier this month, Abrams shared a new live recording of an unreleased track titled ‘Death Wish’.

Her 2024 song ‘That’s So True’ has since made it into the top 10 best-selling vinyl singles of 2025 list.
