Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) faces the consequences of his romance with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) in upcoming scenes from EastEnders.

Harvey made his choice last week, ultimately deciding to be with Kathy as Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) exposed their affair.

In a shocking series of events, Harvey was all set to spend the rest of his life with Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) after accidentally accepting her marriage proposal in a serious miscommunication.

Determined to do the right thing, he went to end things with Kathy… only to be spotted by Cindy as they shared a goodbye kiss.

Recording the moment, Cindy shared her findings with the rest of the family – including a devastated Jean. Jean attempted to salvage her relationship, but he’d finally made his choice, picking Kathy as his one and only.

Their relationship may be out in the open, but that’s not to say that it’s all happily ever after for Kathy and Harvey – as he’s sacked from his job as a result of the affair.

As the week begins, Kathy and Harvey are enjoying being together, despite their resounding guilt over the affair.

However, their happiness is short-lived as a vengeful Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) punishes Harvey by sacking him.

Suddenly jobless, Harvey worries about finding a new job.

What does the future hold for Kathy and Harvey?

This comes at the end of a months-long emotional and physical affair between Harvey and Kathy, who first bonded with a fumbled kiss last year.

Although they initially brushed the kiss off as a mistake, Harvey and Kathy couldn’t stay apart for long.

And, with the Slater family pushed to breaking point over Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) death, Harvey felt neglected, and turned to Kathy for comfort. With Kathy also in a bad place, they found the warmth and support lacking elsewhere, and this turned into a fully-fledged affair.

This became public knowledge thanks to Cindy’s interference, exposing the pair to their families. Jean was ready to forgive Harvey in spite of his unfaithfulness but, with the truth now out, he and Kathy were free to be together – and he made his choice.

Will it be a choice both parties come to regret?

EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday May 19 at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
