In a dramatic turn of events in an already flared-up Ryder Cup, new news is making the rounds. Viktor Hovland‘s Ryder Cup has now ended after a persistent neck injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament. The Norwegian, who battled pain throughout the week and even underwent an MRI the previous night, was unable to tee off in Bethpage Black for the afternoon session. Now with this withdrawal, Keegan Bradley‘s team is expected to suffer a setback in the already lost match.

Viktor Hovland has withdrawn from the Sunday Singles!

This invokes the Envelope Rule. Keegan Bradley had put Harris English’s name in there, meaning English will not compete today and that match is tied.

Also means…

Bradley will now be triggered to bring the rarely used ‘envelope rule.’ As per this, each side of the team pre-selects one player (usually the weakest link in the team) in a sealed envelope before singles, in case of late withdrawal. Bradley had placed Harris English‘s name inside, which means the match he was set to play in will be recorded as a tie, half a point awarded to each side.

This ruling brings Europe firmly in control at 12-5, now needing just two more points to defend their title.

This is a developing story…
