The dream for so many top gymnasts is about to come true- an international spotlight is shining bright on them! The 2025 Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championships are set for June 12โ15 in Panama City, Panama. But the big question is: whoโs going to be on Team USA? Simone Biles? Jordan Chiles? Suni Lee? Well, the full roster hasnโt dropped yet, but thereโs a hint: one of the Paris Olympics teammates is still on the list, and from what we hear, the lineup looks pretty incredible.
Why does this competition even matter so much? Well, the Pan Ams are one of the biggest international meets this year and a huge stepping stone for gymnasts aiming to earn spots at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. Basically, this is where the future stars start staking their claim. So, who made the cut?
Inside Gymnastics just revealed the team: Olympic gold medalist Hezly Rivera and Olympic alternate Tiana Sumanasekera lead the six-woman squad. Joining them are U.S. National team members Dulcy Caylor, Jayla Hang, Gabrielle Hardie, and Alessia Rosa as the traveling alternate. The road to LA 2028 is officially underway! Letโs talk stars.
Hezly Rivera was just 16 at the Paris Games and already came home with Olympic gold as part of the โGolden Girlsโ team. Now, in 2025, sheโs stepping into a more experienced role, ready to show sheโs no rookie anymore. At Februaryโs Winter Cup, Rivera focused on the balance beam. She had some struggles but showed off new, harder moves, hinting at even bigger things to come.ย Then thereโs Tiana Sumanasekera, a powerhouse on beam and floor and a UCLA commit with serious potential.
She crushed it at the 2023 Pan Ams, winning team, all-around, and beam titles, and now sheโs gunning for her first World Championships. After skipping the Winter Cup, June will be her first big meet since the 2024 Olympic Trials. Donโt sleep on Jayla Hang either! At just 17, sheโs already snagged two golds this year on vault and floor at the World Cup circuit. Dulcy Caylor, who qualified for the 2024 Olympic Trials, is also a key player to watch. With this Gymnastics squad, Team USA looks ready to bring the heat. So, who else are you excited to see in Panama? But why are some big names still missing, like Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, and Suni Lee?
While Simone Biles has expressed uncertainty about competing in the 2028 Olympics, citing the physical toll of the sport and a desire to focus on her personal life, she hasnโt officially taken a break. She remains active in the gymnastics community and recently made headlines attending the Met Gala with her husband, Jonathan Owens. Also, Suni Lee, on the other hand, has stepped back from competitive gymnastics. After the 2024 Paris Olympics, she announced plans to leave college gymnastics to focus on other interests, including fashion, and has been making waves modeling for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Meanwhile, Jordan Chiles is still very much active. She continues to compete for UCLA and recently scored an impressive 9.975 on floor at the 2025 NCAA Championships. Sheโs also been open about the challenges she faced after the 2024 Olympics, including the controversy over her bronze medal, but for now, she is not part of this. So, while some fan-favorites sit out this Pan Am cycle, the new faces are stepping up, ready to shine on the international stage. And by the way, the menโs team roster just dropped, too!
U.S. Menโs gymnastics squad gears up for Panama and beyond
Leading the U.S. menโs team at the 2025 Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championships is Asher Hong, a key player in the historic Olympic bronze medal win in Paris. At just 21, Hong is already a standout with NCAA titles in still rings and floor exercise, helping Stanford finish second at the 2025 NCAA Championships.
Joining him are Taylor Burkhart, who won gold on floor at the 2025 Antalya World Cup and was named CGA Gymnast of the Year; Taylor Christopulos, a two-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and recent recipient of the prestigious Nissen-Emery Award as the nationโs top senior NCAA gymnast; Brandon Dang, who impressed with gold on pommel horse at the 2025 Baku World Cup and was named Big Ten Gymnastics Specialist of the Year; Joshua Karnes, a rising star from Penn State who earned bronze on parallel bars at the 2024 NCAA Championships and represented the U.S. at the 2024 Olympic Trials; and alternate Junnosuke Iwai, training at Texas Dreams Gymnastics and Stanford commit, who recently won silver on floor at the 2025 Winter Cup.
This talented and versatile team aims to build on their recent successes and make a strong statement in Panama City as they prepare for the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta. So hold your breath because Team USA is back, and theyโre coming in strong!
