President Trump issues a stern warning to the Houthis, pledging increased military action as US operations expand in Yemen.

President Donald Trump has revealed a series of military strikes targeting Houthi positions in Yemen, marking the most notable military engagement of his second term so far.

The Houthi-run Health Ministry in Yemen has reported that at least nine civilians lost their lives in the attacks carried out on Saturday.

In a message posted on Truth Social, his social media platform, Trump declared, “Your time is up, and your assaults must cease immediately. If they persist, you will face unimaginable consequences like never before.”

He further stated, “I have directed the US military to execute a decisive and robust military operation against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen today.”

“We will unleash overwhelming lethal force until our objectives have been met,” he asserted in the post, accusing the Iran-backed group of endangering shipping routes in the Red Sea.

The Houthis, who have significant control over the country, initiated a campaign against the crucial maritime route in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza following Israel’s escalated bombardment of the area.

Trump also addressed Iran, insisting that it must cease its support for the Houthis. He warned that if Iran poses a threat to the US, “America will hold you completely accountable and we won’t act kindly!”

Earlier, the Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported on attacks occurring in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

The military strikes come as the armed group declared earlier this week that it would resume offensive operations against Israeli vessels after Israel continued its strict blockade on humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The Yemeni faction announced it was “reinstating the ban on the transit of all Israeli ships” through the Red Sea.

“Any Israeli vessel attempting to breach this ban will be targeted within the designated operational zone,” the group stated on Tuesday. They further specified that the “ban” extends to the Arabian Sea, Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.

The strikes have disrupted global trade flows, compelling a substantial volume of maritime traffic between Asia and Europe to reroute away from the Suez Canal, opting instead for the much longer passage around Africa.

The Houthi faction had put a hold on their drone and missile operations, previously targeting ships with slight Israeli connections, when a ceasefire in Gaza was established in January.

However, they threatened to resume such attacks after Israel ceased all aid to the devastated Gaza on March 2, aiming to compel Hamas to release hostages taken during the attack on October 7, 2023.

Earlier this month, the US officially labeled the Houthi movement, formally known as Ansar Allah, as a “foreign terrorist” organization.
